Try putting your timeline in draft mode, or Yellow/Green. You can preview these effects in real-time.

Very strange. What I would do is create a new user and see if that helps. You do this at the project selector screen. I would bet you are zoomed in or a preset is funky. When in doubt, New user, new project.

Everything has to be in a “layout” window. No floating windows. You should be able to move the layout line from one monitor to the other, but when you hit an existing assignment, it becomes an issue. You can always rt click and choose to delete or remove that segment.

AES will always be outputting. It’s embedded SDI that you have to set. And you set it under Settings, Audio settings. Output, enable SDI audio.

No such thing as a education mojo, you just got a better price. If the software was upgraded, I would go with a clean conscience, you cannot upgrade education cheaper than anyone else. I would still upgrade to media composer 3.5 while they are offering a deal, and it is better software all around.

Officially when it is purchased it is agreed that it will not be used for commercial work. At one time it could not be upgraded, and you were stuck at that version until the next purchase.
Now, everyone can go to the Avid website and upgrade it to the latest version.
I would go through an Avid reseller, and upgrade to a software bundle for about $800. It is quite a deal, becasue it comes with a lot of 3rd party programs like BCC and Sorenson that will help in your workflow. Those programs separately cost over $1200. This would officially make your license a typical one.
But in my experience if you think you are doing something wrong, you probably are.

Generically speaking adding ram should not cause this issue. Have you tried dumping your preferences in the Avid. It is becoming a last ditch effort, but it is worth a try.
Go under c:Program FilesAvidMedia ComposerSettings and delete anything that doesn’t say default. That will dump your overall settings.
Sorry to not be much help from here.

As is always the case, make sure you do a test output before you get to cruch time. Pushing it to the last minute will guarantee failure.

There did used to be an issue updating the latest firmware on a mac, you may need to update the firmware on a pc. But before doing that:
Make sure you are connected to the mojo using the 6 pin firewire. From a macbook, you would go 6 pin firewire to 6 pin firewire on the mojo.
Does the Host light lite up on mojo?
