The 2.8 is the earlier model. I would anticipate it should work fine. However, things like multiformat editing and AVC-intra may make the machine perform poorly.

To change the SCSI id on the RTR 320x, you would have to use a small screwdriver and rotate a small selector on the back. As long as it is not set to ID 7, and it is the only drive connected, you should be fine. If you have not adjusted it, don’t do it now. Since it is an (x) I believe that means it is 10 drives, so the much larger chassis. Is this correct.
Although the RTR320x Raid has 10 drives in it, it really only shows up as 2 physical drives inside drive management. Do you see 2 drives that are 2.5 TB or so in size under windows Management?

Can you import another quicktime file successfully? It may be a file format issue. How complex is the filename? Make sure there are no strange characters in it. Make the filename less than 8 characters with no spaces.

Let’s get a bit more info.
Do you still have the Media Drive LVD connected? You should diconnect it, and see if that helps. You may have a bent pin on the SCSI cable. this happens all of the time. Realign the pins and see if that helps.
If you changed the Id on the RTR320X, then you need to change it back. The RTR chassis has status lights on the front and the back. On the back, all the lights above the drives should be green. If they are not, you have a failed drive. Also, it is quite easy to plug the SCSI cable that connects the computer to the drive upside down on this drive. If you look at the connector, there is a bump on one side of the connector. If you look at the connector, it is a trapezoid, and the smaller portion of the trapezoid is the side where the bump on the cable connects.

The Avid will certainly import DV files faster than Prores. The prores files would be imported into Avid, and Avid would have to convert them. Whereas DV files would be re-wrapped.
Theoretically the prores files would be better quality.

The only way to do it is to connect to a computer that has a scsi connection and copy it to a firewire drive. You would need to use a mac.
Not sure if the G4 has firewire, but it certainly has USB. You could use a usb drive as well.

There is no way that I am aware of, other than either not capturing them (not possible if file based formats). It may be easier to simply lay them down, then turn the audio off on that track (desect the speaker Icon).

64 bit is a whole new world. If you are on the xw8600, then yes, you need an additional firewire card. The nvidia driver should be located under c:program filesAvidUtilities.

In fact I would run the uninstaller scripts. Rename the Media Composer folder to xMedia Composer, and reinstall. Baby with the bath water approach, but I agree with Michael.

Drop frame and non-drop frame are really just ways to calculate time. For broadcast, everything should be drop frame, otherwise you may run late. As long as your timeline is what you want your final to be, the source footage is irrelevant.
