I’m sorry, but this is the most ridiculous thing I had ever seen in my life. How are you supposed to grade with this monstrosity? I had shots, where I had to use over 20 layers of correction and I can immediately see what had been done on any layer. And, yes, every layer can be a serial, a parallel types with a key mixer in Resolve parlance. Just look the pictures of nodes and layers and judge for yourself, which one would you rather use?:-)

Yes, seriously. Look at any other top notch color grading systems- Baselight, Lustre, Filmmaster. They all use layers. Do you think they don’t know what they are doing? Look at photoshop. Is photoshop using nodes? Nodes are great for shots, where you can spend hours and days finessing one shot. Color grading is all about artistic creativity and speed. Yes, speed…

Or here is a crazy idea. How about not using nodes and start using layers, like normal color grading systems. Nodes are wonderful for compositing, for grading they are nightmare to use. Nodes do not show, if you had adjusted luminance level or offsets or pretty much anything else. All you know, that there is a key or a mask on that node. So, now you start running through all your nodes, trying to figure out what you had used earlier. Yes, you can come up with a system, but that is again the case where software dictates the way you work and not the other way around. I understand, that at some point at the beginning some engineer thought, that using nodes was clever, but in real application it’s really bad idea. The whole interface is counterintuitive and counterproductive. It is just about as bad as it gets. Sorry to be so harsh, but every time I use any other software, I’m so much more productive…

Nope, it’s call “kissing a node”- hold a shift and touch nodes and smoke/flame will connect it for you. Or you can draw line over connection and it will break the connection. No need to select it and delete it. Or, select CMD-T and smoke/flame will clean up the node tree for you:-)

You need to make sure, that there is no IP address conflicts. Normally MC color uses DHCP and, personally, I find it very stable a worry free. But if you have many computers on the network, your DHCP server may run into an occasional problem. If problem persists, you may need to investigate the use of manual IP address. MC color allows that as well. You can find the directions for setting up manual IP address in MC color manual.

Select the highlights and instead of blur use mist. It’s a bit tricky to set up, but the look is definitely what you describing.

What I can’t understand, is while using say, FilmMaster, I can group any shots with any kind of grades and then just append the correction layer (node in resolve parlance) and it’s done. Why does Resolve cares, if all you want just to append one layer (node) to the group of shots?
On the same subject, group grading implementation on Resolve leaves a lot to be desired. In it’s present iteration I can’t justify it’s use, at least for me personally. The list is long. You can’t gang and ungag shots on the fly. In order to add shots to the group, shots has to contain the same order of nodes. You can’t display just the shots in the group and hide the rest, a-la Lustre, you can’t display all shots in the group on one screen, a-la Baselight or Lustre. And the last group grading complain- adding a shot to a group is cumbersome… -
You can do exactly same thing with free RCX.

I’m not going to pretend, that I know what I’m talking about here, but 1440×1080 means, that it was acquired by either Sony camera or some other kind of Japanese prosumer and consumer camera. The end result the QT player is aware, that something like HDV or XDCAM, the pixels are non squire and QT and so is Color does the conversion on the fly, presenting correct 16×9 1920×1080 image. You need to select non squire pixels and you should be good to go.
