I really like the form factor and ergonomics of the panel. I have to compliment BM for getting the balls sensitivity just right. Just a pleasure to use it. Having said that, present layout of the panel is pretty regrettable. It is clearly designed by engineering driven culture with minimal, if any at all, colorist input. I hope in the future we will get the ability to customize the panel. Until then I’d rather rely on the shortcuts, than trying to use the shift functions on the panel. You can’t just hold shift function and select the control. It works only the first time. For example, Left Shift F4- Play Still. I like to switch it back and forth, as I grade. The first time it does just that. Continue holding the shift and pushing the F4 again results in Add Parallel.

I find group grading on Resolve a bit lacking. If I create a group and I want to match just one shot in that group to the rest of the shots in that group, I can’t find a way to un-gang that shot, which greatly diminishes the whole idea of group grading.

Interesting, good to know. Thanks for the info. So, the next question is what is the “track node”? I couldn’t find any mention of it in the manual. Is it something like an adjustment layer?

Oh, I see. Does that mean, that one can highlight the whole timeline and add all events to the group at once? That will work as a workaround, if that is the case. I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks!

    Hi Rohit.
I think Mike answered it, unless I’m misunderstanding. So I’ll give you another example. At the beginning of the session I sometimes like to get a basic look with may be one node- color balance, saturation, exposure etc, that I can apply to all events, so I’m in a good range. As Mike pointed out, at this point, the only way to do that is to create one large group of all events in the timeline and apply that “basic look” node or nodes to that group. But, again, as Mike correctly pointed out, this is only in theory, as adding 300 events in the timeline is not really practical. I think you’d mentioned, that one can apply the Basemem to multiple events. Can then Basemem be set up, like in the old telecine days to that “basic look” and then it may be applied to the whole timeline? I really find it difficult to believe, that one can’t copy the grade or a node to more than one event.

So, let me get it straight. There is no Mac equivalent to
“-,+ ripple value”of the Resolve panel?
What is one to do, when at the end of the session client asks to darken or lighten or whatever the whole project and all can be done is to append the ripple node one event at the time?
I must be missing something. This can’t be right, can it?

  • Do you mean, that BM doesn’t support MC transport? BM must have a good reason for doing that:-)

Applying grade to a number of selected shots doesn’t make it a group grade. It is just that – a grade copy. Group grade is a much more powerful concept, starting with the ability to grade it as a group, an ability to un-gang and re-gang individual shots, as well as an ability to save and recall those groups. Unfortunately, in it’s present state, adding shots to a group is pretty inefficient.

  • No, you’re wrong. Lustre doesn’t have such tools and it never did.
