You might be able to do that by using a spot light as a projector and putting the movie into the transparency channel of a material, then putting the material on the light as a gel. In the transparency channel you then need to click on the button to edit the movie, then click on the Animation tab and click Calculate.

Thanks for the replies! There are no white pixels on the edge that I can find. I’ll look into turning off Tile, that’s probably a good idea. But what I ended up doing yesterday afternoon is scaling up the dimensions in the Mapping area of the Displacer to 100.1%, and that got rid of it. I will try out the tiling suggestion also, though. Thanks, guys.

Well, I think I may have fixed the problem. I don’t know exactly what was causing it, but I opened the scene, copied all the objects in the Object Manager and pasted them into an empty scene. The new scene had many fewer materials in it than the old scene, so there were a lot of unused materials in it, and possibly duplicates as well. It’s possible that one of those (or more) might have been corrupted and caused malfunctions in the scene. The new scene with fewer works just fine.

October 3, 2014 at 12:23 pm in reply to: Newb question here. How to exit edit mode.

Pressing C when a parametric object is selected doesn’t enter edit “mode” exactly. What it does is make the parametric object editable, in other words it allows you to edit the points and polygons of the object, which you can’t do when it’s a parametric object. This is a permanent change to the object, the triangle icon isn’t going to go away. It just signifies that the object has been made editable. To get out of “points mode” you need to choose the model tool. It doesn’t seem to appear in the Tools menu at the top of the screen, but it’s there in the toolbar on the side of the screen if you’re using the default layout. You’ll see a series of cube icons with various things highlighted to show what they do (points, edges, polygons, etc.). These are the “mode tools” that define what it is you’re going to edit. Choose the very top one, that looks like just a cube, and that is the model tool. With that you can move, rotate or scale the entire object.

Try the Ivy Grower plugin (free). Not sure if it’s animatable in the way you want, but it may be worth a try.

July 21, 2014 at 11:41 am in reply to: How can I delete a Group Separator ?

While in palette editing mode, create a new palette. You will get a floating window, which is the new palette. Drag the separator onto the new palette, then close it, which deletes it. Then exit editing mode and your separator is gone.

If it’s not bending smoothly, maybe you need more subdivision in the object. Also, give the wrap deformer a try; sometimes this works a little better than the bend deformer. There’s also the spline deformer you could try. But most likely you’ll need to subdivide the object more to get a smooth deformation.

  • Nitroman has a free plugin called MagicWireframe that you might try. I don’ know how complex an object you can use with it, but it’s probably worth a try.
