April 10, 2014 at 11:34 am in reply to: how to continue after repeat

Actually I think it should work. I just tried a simple experiment with a Cube. I set the cube to rotate 360 degrees in 2 seconds. I set it to repeat once, which made it repeat the rotation twice, ending at 4 seconds. I then keyframed the cube to move in the X direction for the next 2 seconds. So the cube rotated for 2 seconds, then rotated again for 2 seconds, then translated for 2 seconds. Once the repeats are over the object should be free to be animated in other ways. I don’t know how this will work with a complex animation, but I think you should be able to do it.

I find it quite useful in the Top view to be able to rotate it, in fact, I’ve wanted to be able to do this for some time. Maybe Maxon can put in some kind of lock button to prevent unwanted rotation of the view. And then when you unlock it you can rotate it.

I think I may have found the solution, have to play with it to make sure. I was looking for some sort of gravity setting and I found it in the Forces tab on the Hair object. It was set by default to -9.something. I set it to 0 and it looks like it’s working.

If you’ve got the render settings set to render to a specific folder, but maybe the folder got deleted or moved, then maybe Cinema can’t find the folder to put the render in. This has happened to me in the past. You can render without a location in the Save tab (just leave it blank) if it’s a single picture; then you can save it from the Picture Viewer. But if you’re rendering a sequence and you have no location set, Cinema won’t save the renders.

Thanks, Adam, I’ll be playing with these techniques. I hadn’t thought of using Layers in the material.

You can do this in the Material editor by clicking and dragging. In the color channel put in your image or procedural texture.Go to the Basic tab and activate Bump. Then with both the Color and Bump channels selected you’ll see both tab contents in the editor. Drag the little preview of the Color texture onto the texture bar in the Bump channel and it will copy to that channel.

September 9, 2013 at 11:49 am in reply to: UI Mouse Hovering Issue

Are you clicking in the text field before typing or just mousing over and trying to type? I haven’t had this problem when using the mouse, but I have to click into the text field to type a number and that works fine.

I am also a Wacom tablet user and I have trouble (in R14) doing this with the pen. I can’t click in a text field with the pen, I have to switch to the mouse to do it. I don’t know why this is so; I think it’s either a C4D 14 problem or a Wacom driver problem. Would love to find a solution for this.

    Hi Dan,

Unfortunately the file is 91MB. It’s filled with thousands of objects and stuff. I found that if I copy the hair object and put it into a new blank file it seems to render properly, so I don’t know that a stripped down file would show the problem.

Thanks, Dan. The root guide length is 21m. I’ll mess with it and see what comes up.

May 1, 2013 at 11:39 am in reply to: Boat Spray

    Hi Greg,

I assume you are talking about spray at the bow, flying up as the boat slices through the water. You could try using just a plain particle emitter. I did it this way some years ago. I placed one emitter on either side of the boat, made them a child of the boat so they travel with it. Use a tiny sphere as the particle and you’ll have to emit a lot of them, and play with the settings to get it to look right. I think Pyrocluster would be too slow and clunky to use for this, though I may be wrong (every time I use Pyrocluster I spend too many hours trying to get it right). A regular emitter would render faster, I believe. I’m sure there’s also a Thinking Particles method, but I’m not a TP guru, unfortunately.
