I don’t understand why you don’t capture from tape into FCP. I mean, if you want to edit in FCP you will have to buy or rent a Mac or MBP with FCP anyway, or am I missing something?

Set it to High and Unlimited.

PS you can cut on-the-fly – play the sequence and cut away…

Have you tried decreasing RAM allocation for FCP ? I know it sounds counterintuitive but I have always been wondering if Motion may be running in the background in these situations, desperate for memory

OSX may be using those keys. Go to Control Panels and look for Expose

Go to Waveform cache and trash the guilty files. FCP will create new ones for you.

You can have FCP conform the sequence settings to the footage automatically – look under User Preferences

I wasn’t aware that Apple described it the way you mentioned, so I don’t know. Actually I thought that I followed the method from the manual, with the small modification of the button assignment.

Don’t use the Viewer. Put the multiclip on the timeline, gang the Viewer and cut between angles using assigned buttons, like I described.
