Multicam edit sequence clip not cutting
Posted by Mircea Dobre on June 12, 2009 at 11:04 pmHello,
I am having a problem regarding the multicam edit in Final Cut Pro. I am sync-ing the clips, everything it’s fine until I have to play the clips and select the camera that I want. The issue is that the sequence clip doesn’t split. Once pressing the different angles from the cameras the clip from the sequence is changing as per the original one, but not cutting the angle. I tried different methods but nothing works.
Thanks again for your help. Nice website, it save me from a lot of situations.

June 13, 2009 at 8:52 amIf you want to do multicam editing really fast you’d best customize your keyboard and create a button for every angle you want to cut to:
– press alt-H to bring up the Customize Keyboard window and unlock it (lower left corner)
– in the search field enter “cut”; you will see a series of entries coming up from “cut audio to angle1” to “cut video to angle 9”
– drag the entries that you need to the buttons you prefer in the keyboard. That’s it!

June 13, 2009 at 5:12 pmHi Jaap,
First of all thanks for the reply.
My problem is that after I am doing the multiclip sequence, when I start changing the channels from Viewer (when the colour is green then this is the active channel) then the Sequence on the bottom is not cutting the clip to create the clip I want. When I am changing the channel the entire Sequence clip is changing too. There is no way in cutting itwhen selected the green channel from the Viewer. I might do something wrong, I search all over the internet for similar issues but cannot find anything.
I tried your suggestions again (did it before too) but no results. Trash the preferences, nothing happened. Thanks,

June 13, 2009 at 6:27 pmDon’t use the Viewer. Put the multiclip on the timeline, gang the Viewer and cut between angles using assigned buttons, like I described.

June 13, 2009 at 7:17 pmJaap, thank you very much. It is working exactly as you said.
Any idea why it doesn’t work just to click the green clip (the one you wanna make it active) from the Viewer as described by Apple?
But yes, it is working this way and it makes is safer for any mistakes then the previous method. Thanks again,

June 13, 2009 at 7:41 pmI wasn’t aware that Apple described it the way you mentioned, so I don’t know. Actually I thought that I followed the method from the manual, with the small modification of the button assignment.

June 13, 2009 at 8:15 pmAs far as I know after you do the multiclip sequence you just have to click on the green video that you choose from the Viewer and the sequence clip will be automatically cut.
Thanks for the help, now it works fine.Best regards,

June 13, 2009 at 9:20 pmPS you can cut on-the-fly – play the sequence and cut away…
Good luck, Jaap

August 31, 2009 at 10:41 pmHere’s a question, if anyone can help:
I’ve done multicam on-the-fly cuts before, but for some reason this particular project is giving me trouble. When I hit the number keys to select new angles, the little grey markers appear in the timeline where I’ve made each angle change, just like normal, but when I am finished with the playback, the cuts don’t appear as they normally do! It’s driving me crazy…..

Any reasons or solution to this problem?
