    Ramp down using the time remapping effect. At the frame that you want to freeze, use the razor tool to cut the clip in two. Right-click the second clip, select Frame Hold… and choose | Hold On | In Point | OK |. Change the duration of the frozen frame by adjusting the length of the second clip in the timeline.

    It depends on the delivery requirements and what you deem to be high quality. Blu-ray maximum bitrate is 40mbps. Online video hosting sites are much lower. At the far end of the spectrum, maximizing the encoder settings and setting key frame distance to one (1) frame will generate 1080p files at over 150mbps.

  • – Export 640×480 with Aspect set to Square Pixels (1.0000).
    – Enable Maximum Render Quality and export directly from Premiere Pro (i.e. don’t use the Queue when rescaling).
    – The bitrate settings recommended by Chris should be fine. For best quality maximize average bitrate and set Key Frame Distance to one (1) frame.
    – Under the Multiplexer tab set Stream Compatibility to Standard (it defaults to iPod).

    There will be slight generational losses. Depending on the footage it may or may not be noticeable. Here is a great discussion comparing different codecs. In general, when repositioning 4:2:0 footage it is better to export with 4:4:4 subsampling.

    However, you don’t need to create intermediate files; just work from the camera footage. Create a dedicated sequence for each clip from the source file. Set the in and out points as desired and apply the Warp Stabilizer. You can now export the clips as stock footage, insert them into other sequences, or import them into other projects.

    The same process can be used in After Effects if you plan to color correct or use other AE effects. Stabilize the footage, apply effects, and import the AE project into Premiere Pro using a Dynamic Link.

    The advantage of this approach is that you are always working from the source footage without any re-encoding. The disadvantage is that you need access to the source file (or a copy of it).

  • The tree and text views in MediaInfo provide more detailed information. Near the bottom of the video section there should be an item called “Encoding Settings.” It shows all the x264 settings Vimeo used when transcoding the file.

    I noticed the Vimeo file is 1888×1062. Are those the dimensions of your uploaded file?

    Also, since the duration is only ~53 seconds consider uploading a ProRes or DNxHD file. Try a short clip first at both 720p and 1080p.

    Separate the common and dedicated clips into different tracks. Create unique titles and subtitles for each language, and place them on the dedicated tracks. When it is time to export, turn the tracks on and off as required.

    For example, the timeline might look like this:

    V9: Spanish subtitles
    V8: English subtitles
    V7: Spanish titles
    V6: English titles
    V5: Common video
    V4: Common video
    V3: Common video
    V2: Common video
    V1: Common video

    A1: Common audio
    A2: Common audio
    A3: Common audio
    A4: Common audio
    A5: Common audio
    A6: English audio 1
    A7: English audio 2
    A8: Spanish audio 1
    A9: Spanish audio 2

    When exporting, enable all common audio and video tracks, and turn on the dedicated tracks as required. If there are too many languages to put on the same timeline, keep the common audio and video on your main sequence and embed it into dedicated sequences for each language.

    Contact the festival to understand their delivery requirements. There are many codecs that provide excellent quality or high efficiency. It won’t matter, though, if the submitted file can’t be played on their equipment.

    In the absence of any other information, H.264 is the most ubiquitous codec, and a Baseline profile will provide the most compatibility (but not the best compression). For reference, the maximum video bitrate for 1080p Blu-ray is 40mbps. DVD quality for MPEG-2 SD footage is about 4-6 mbps on average with 6-8 mbps peak bitrate.

  • The original file is 720×576 with rectangular pixels and the YouTube version is 656×480 with square pixels. You would be better off exporting your file at 640×480 or 960×720. Render a short test clip at both resolutions and see how they look when uploaded.

    In addition, make sure the YouTube player is sized appropriately. If it’s too big or too small the video will be rescaled during playback.

    For clarification, is the “After” image from your x264 file or from the Vimeo transcode?

    Try encoding and uploading a short high motion clip as a test file. I recommend downscaling to 1280×720 first. For the x264 Compressor export enable Best Quality (Multi-pass) and Key Frames: Automatic. Also try creating a MP4 with the following video settings:

    Video Format: H.264
    Data Rate: 12680 (assuming audio is 320 kbps)
    Image Size: 1280×720
    Key Frame: Automatic
    Video Options…
    – Main Profile
    – Best Quality (Multi-pass)
