    Howdy all,

I’m a 7D shooter editing on Premiere Pro. I’m used to exporting video for the web but now I have a short film finished that’s being submitted to a short film festival. What would you suggest for settings to maintain optimum quality for the big screen?

Contact the festival to understand their delivery requirements. There are many codecs that provide excellent quality or high efficiency. It won’t matter, though, if the submitted file can’t be played on their equipment.

In the absence of any other information, H.264 is the most ubiquitous codec, and a Baseline profile will provide the most compatibility (but not the best compression). For reference, the maximum video bitrate for 1080p Blu-ray is 40mbps. DVD quality for MPEG-2 SD footage is about 4-6 mbps on average with 6-8 mbps peak bitrate.
