SOLVED!

I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 Codec Pack 4.0.1 from here
https://www.easyfreeware.com/files/windows_7_codec_pack.zip/107250

and it’s now ok.

Stephen, mic-on-camera (for me) is much worse than that! My cam is a Sony Handycam and is very very very noisy!

The Rode mic is close to me, pointing at me, and recording the audio to a digital recorder (at 48khz so it syncs in Vegas Pro properly, thanks guys). But will try the lapel mic (as suggested) which would be even better.

Frank, I used a Rode NTG-2 Dual Powered Shotgun Condenser Microphone with far too much reverb (in this test). I have a lapel mic I shall experiment with. Good point.

A ‘dummy’ is here. Here the background is lit with a table lamp. 500W photoflood does a better job (but not enough).

The background can be a plain white image.

John, my camera is a Sony HDR-SR12E. Alas, it looks like it has no manual level control setting.

Yes, the recording was default at 44.1. That would explain it.
I shall change it to 48khz and that should do it. Plus make any adjustment as you showed.

I think I figured it out.

The timeline goes only up to the next 2 minute mark after the media ends. So I put a media file of 1 minute going past the 2 min mark and the timeline ‘ends’ at 4 min.

Somebody pls confirm this is why?
