The problem isn’t that the system doesn’t know that the exported movie and the original sources are the same — the problem is that dupe detection won’t work with an exported movie if it is copied twice into the same timeline. Since the last posting I’ve tried it with several other quick time movies imported into FCP and dupe detection doesn’t work on any of them — the same clip copied into two different spots in the same timeline and dupe detection doesn’t flag them even though it does flag source clips that were captured via the capture window. Very strange.

I get this problem when capturing thru a Blackmagic HD Pro card over SDI — no down converting, no firewire, rs-422 control.

I find the FCP capture tool to be quite buggy and a major pain the the butt. Batch re-capturing can turn into a crap shoot becuase of these phantom breaks. Along with the “media-mangler” this is the worst part of FCP and I wish to heaven that instead on ever newer features they would just fix the problems they have had for so long.

I think we have a misconnect here. I am not trying to compare the Multibridge Pro to the Multibridge Extreme, I am trying to compare the Decklink Extreme to the Multibridge Pro.

Go to the PBS website. They have a section for Producers. All specs are listed there in a rather large document. They have their Closed Captioning on somewhat different lines in the vertical interval than most but otherwise nothing strange about their technical specs except for the fact that they are absolute sticklers for them.

Funny — coming from Discreet *edit I always thought, and still think, that FCP’s handling of Time Code breaks is atrocious, the one aspect of FCP that makes me think about changing systems. Enabling “create new clip on break” works sometimes, crashes other times and is totally ignored still other times. It is the worst of all things for an editor — inconsistent. There is no good reason that FCP can’t accomplish something as well as software that has been dead for at least 3 years, yet that is most certainly the case with FCP versus *Edit. Other than the “media mangler” the entire Capture Window is the one area that I wish FCP would totally overhaul.
