BCC incompatible with FCP 5.1.1?
Posted by Tom John on August 31, 2006 at 12:47 amHi, all.
Just purchased BCC for FCP, but after upgrading to FCP 5.1.1, the BCC parameters no longer show up in the viewer window. (Kind of a bummer ‘cuz I’m in the middle of a pilot posting.)
Just FYI.

2. You’ve now learnt not to upgrade in the middle of a job …?
cheers.

August 31, 2006 at 12:02 pmthere is indeed a patch….and it works but there are quite a few hoops to jump through and a new workflow to learn….it’s a pain in the butt and seems that Boris and Apple have some work to do to get the issues resolved…however, Boris tech support informed me that he couldnt tell me when a new release was planned or what features or in this cases bug fixes it would include.
it seems that for now you have to put up with the buggy performance….Sapphire anyone?

Hmmm, I’ve seen nothing of the sort here. After installing the FCP 5.1.1 patch, Continuum 3.0 is running exactly as it did in FCP 5.0. Not sure what “hoops” you’ve had to jump through, but I’ve not seen any difference in BCC running in FCP 5.1.1

it may be a particularly bad issue with BCC 4 – which is what we are running with here. Yes it works (most of the time) if you remember to toggle the capslock on and off, but my keyboard doesnt have a light on the capslock key so its hard to know when you have and when you havent and then if you get it wrong it’s a crash to the desktop.
Generally it feels unstable and if you have to trash prefs (a fairly regular FCP ritual) you have to go through the whole BCC uninstall, reinstall process to get back up and running.
they are hoops because you pay good money for software and when it doesnt “just work” especially when it used to “just work” it is a frustration.
if your BCC 3 set up is working then that’s great…it seems the patch is directed mainly at BCC 4 and where all the engineering issues are.
spare those of in BCC 4 land a kind thought while you are living life in perfect ‘hoop-free harmony’ in BCC 3 🙂

Wow, that is truly bizarre that the older software is “hoop free” while the newer software is having the problems. Makes me very happy to still be sitting on BCC 3.
By the way, have you posted any of this in the BorisFX forum here on the Cow?

September 1, 2006 at 12:23 pmi know bizzaro….we have three G5’s, 1 G4 and a couple of laptops here and they are all being quite goofy! I’ve talked to boris tech support and they would only say follow the known limitations on the release notes and wouldn’t commit to a new version or even a proper fix.
it is frustrating…it works most of the time but really when you shell out the cash you hope it works as stated on the box. I wouldn’t have upgraded had I known the issues.
makes me wonderi if I still have the BCC 3 install disks around and go with version 3 untill this is sorted out.
glad to hear all is well in “wallyworld” 😉
