  • Help!!! Dupe detection not working on imported files

Posted by Herb Sevush on November 7, 2006 at 5:55 pm

I’m working on a project that is using FCP quick time exports for source files. Dupe detection does not seem to work with these files, but does work with the original sources that went into making these files – what’s up with that??

The original sources are DVCPRO 50 files imported from Panasonic P2 cards. These files work fine, but are cut up into small files unsuitable for Multi-cam editing. To work with them I laid each cameras files onto their own “assembly” timeline then exported the timeline as a Quicktime Movie. These movies became the sources for my multi-clips. This workflow has been fine till now — I’ve just noticed that dupe detection does not work with these exported movie files — it does work with the original P2 source files, but there is no way to trace back to them at this point — and besides I just can’t understand why “dupe detection” won’t work with these exported files. They have timecode, they are quicktime, they’re imported into the project –why doesn’t “dupe detection” work???

    Any ideas will be welcome.

    Thanks

    Dave –

The problem isn’t that the system doesn’t know that the exported movie and the original sources are the same — the problem is that dupe detection won’t work with an exported movie if it is copied twice into the same timeline. Since the last posting I’ve tried it with several other quick time movies imported into FCP and dupe detection doesn’t work on any of them — the same clip copied into two different spots in the same timeline and dupe detection doesn’t flag them even though it does flag source clips that were captured via the capture window. Very strange.
