In OSX it’s the command key plus the number of the angle. So Command + 2 changes the clip to the 2nd angle of the multicam. If you hit the number alone, without the command modifier, it makes a cut to that angle at the cursor position. This can all be modified with Keyboard shortcuts.

  • I don’t have your issue and I’m just giving you my best practices, based on cutting nothing BuT multicam on Ppro for the past 10 years.

I’m guessing that setting the “default media scaling = set to frame” option is causing your scaling issues. Thats why in general preferences, I set “default media scaling = none” and then manually scale the 4K’s to 50% in the multiclips.

As for making changes after flattening, I agree it’s a PITA, which is why I leave it for the last possible moment. After that, if I do have to make the occasional change, it’s not that hard to recall the original multiclip based on timecode or whatever.

    Good luck.

  • My best practice with mixed ( HD + 4K ) multicam sources for use in final HD timeline:

Create HD multicams and then manually re-set the 4K clips to 50% in the multicam sources. This does not take long, even with dozens of multicams. Do not use auto resizing in the multicams. This way everything will appear full frame, both in the source and timeline viewer, when editing to HD timelines.

When scaling up the 4k clips, leave it as a mulicam source, even if it appears a little soft, then flatten the scaled clips to 4K when you are ready to finalize your timeline.

  • Hit the wrench icon on the top left of any Ppro timeline and enable “show thru edits.”

As always, yes to everything Walter said; however my 30 minute Broadcast timelines are loaded down with effects, almost every shot with at least a lumetri color grade, many with Warp Stabilizers, transforms, blurs, Samurai sharpening and Mocha Pro effects and most of the time the timelines render to either mp4 or ProRes in one pass, no issues. You shouldn’t have to pre-render EFX, I wonder what in your workflow is causing the problem?

If you had to scale your clip down to 50% to make the full frame fit in the 1080 timeline, then scaling it back up will use all of the 4K information.

If it were my decision, I would have migrated to Resolve by now. Unfortunately my client is Adobe based and I’m stuck with an erratic platform that is all about adding new wiz bang features without optimizing or just fixing the current features. When they start going backwards and removing essential features it does get to be a bit much. That they are non-communicative on top of that just has me grinding my teeth.

    Kevin –

I use Ppro multicam all the time and do not have this problem, so there definitely should be a fix for you.

    Questions:

    1) Does this happen on Video 1 as well? What about other video tracks ?

    2) Is this happening only with Lumetri or whenever you do anything with the effects panel ?

    3) How did you create the multicam sequence – using Ppro’s “Create Multicam” effect, using a third party like Plural Eye’s, or manually within Ppro ?

    4) Since this started to be a problem for you, have you ever done a “fresh install” of new versions of Ppro or always installed over the old version?

Let me know and hopefully we should come up with a solution. This is not a universal software bug, and it should not be happening to you.

  • Cine X has an exact solution for this, I use it all the time. It’s amazing.

October 15, 2021 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Face tracking

The effect is done by stabilizing a clip with the focus of stabilization on the face. Mocha is the best stabilizer I know of for this. You might get lucky with Warp Stabilizer in PPro – try using “No Motion” and stabilize on “Position” or “Position and Rotation” – but your best bet is Mocha.

Here’s a Mocha Stabilization tutorial, the effect you want is towards the end of the lesson.
