The bad news is that, as someone who has fried Firewire ports on both a Mac Book and an 8 core tower, you have to replace the main logic board which, on a Mac Book cost me about $500. More like $1500 for the tower unless I am mistaken.
Gloomy prognosis. I wonder how you fried it?
I had a faulty Firestore camera drive recorder and ran around plugging its Firewire into various computers until I smelled burning (really!)and managed to restrain myself. I took out three computers by the time I was finished.

This is not constant condition with me and, because I know the keyboard shortcuts, I seldom notice that it is missing.
I find that quitting and restarting Final Cut restores the EDIT tab. And when I have quite I usually trash prefs too.
So I have no answer, but …
Hey – it could be worse, right? But I can’t trace it to anything and you are the first person I have encountered you has this issue.

I see you never got response to your question.
Here is some information which I quote from a review of the camera on Millimeter Magasine:
At any rate, what comes out of the HD-SDI spigot is always uncompressed 1080/60i. Newly minted synthetic progressive frames must therefore be segmented into halves in order to fit the 60i cadence. For instance in 30PsF (progressive segmented frames/second), a progressive frame’s odd lines are first output, then even lines, amounting to 60 half-frames per second, all of which are reassembled into intact progressive scans upon playback. This introduces the unique irony that 30F, which began life interlaced at 60i, is output as 30PsF at 60i.
24F comes out the HD-SDI spigot as 24PsF, with 2:3 pulldown added to pad 48 half-frames into a total of 60 segments. Downstream devices like NLEs that recognize segmented progressive frames and 24p repeat flags will readily ingest Canon’s PsF stream and restore either 30F or 24F “progressive” frames upon playback.

I suggest that you use MPEG Streamclip.
It’s a very good little program from Apple and – it’s free.
I have compared it to Compressor and to Red Giant thing and I think MPEG Streamclip is in fact better.
We had a shot for a show for a major DVD release which, for various reasons, was shot in SD at night. It had to be uprezzed. It got through QC without their noticing at all. I admit that I did also use Neat Video on it, but give it a shot.

At last! I’ve been waiting to meet you for a long time.
This is something that I have experienced too when exporting from ProRes 422 running at 23.976. If you make a DVD it will be worse. It’s about 3 frames out by the time it gets to DVD, right?
There is no cure. I have traveled far and wide on this one and I guess that we are the few unfortunates who suffer this irritation due to some confluence of the stars, the coriolis effect and chemtrails.
You just have to advance the sound by 3 frames (I think it’s that way round – erm, or is it advance the picture?).
Oh, by the way go to your SEQUENCE menu – down to SEQUENCE SETTINGS and make sure that the COMPRESSOR export box thingy is set to ProRes 422.
