Eric, Have you tried restarting your mac in “Command R” mode, going to Terminal and typing in “csrutil disable”. Then restarting on your boot drive normally and putting your unwanted files in the trash and deleting them? That should make the trash work. Buy now you have to go back – restart, go to terminal and type in “csrutil enable”. Then restart again to your preferred boot drive? I think I got that right. Anyway, that works for me when I find files in the trash which refuse to empty. Best wishes, Harry. Let me know if this works for you.

    Dear Annie,

    I can do this. Harry 626 525 8484. I’m in LA.

  • I’m afraid you have revealed one of the many faults in PP which is the most crashy and unreliable editing program on the market today. I don’t suffer this particular problem of yours and wish I could help. Have you tried the Adobe tech support line – 800 833 6687. They can be very helpful or totally useless depending on which tech you get. I’m sure there is a fix … like re-booting or tossing your rig across the room.

    Best wishes,

    Harry.

    Dear Greg,

Thank you so much for your response.

I am NOT currently using proxies. I will use proxies, but I will eventually have to go back to the original 4k to assemble a final master output, which means working in 4k – also there are a number of FX shots which have to be created in 4k.

By the way, I have done all the usual – trashed prefs, reinstalled program, reinstalled system, run Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, prayed etc.

However, in principal, 4k should work ok in my configuration and gear, no?

Again, thank you for your time.

    Harry.

    Hi Brent,

Thanks very much for your speedy reply and good to have your apparently high opinion of this card.

    Hi Brent,

Further to your kind and informative earlier posting: I see that your AMD Vega Frontier is pretty expensive at about $1,000 but I may ultimately have to go for that one. Meanwhile, though, you mention the RADEON RX 580 and this (below) looks pretty good to me, but perhaps will be no good in my Mac Pro 5,1 converted from 4,1 running OS 10.13.8. (High Sierra):

I saw this on the Newegg website for $332, so I’m a little suspicious of this low price.

Do you think this is suitable for me or am I barking up the wrong tree.

With many thanks for your advice and thoughts.

    Harry.

Wow … Brent. Thank you so much for your comprehensive guide and know-how-info. It’s going to take me a long time to digest all that. I do hope that you’ll permit me to come back to you at a later date for further advice – or at least explanations of your existing advice.

As for Macvidcards, I can’t raise them by the phone number 323 851 1753 and I’m certain that was their number 3 years ago on Hillside Avenue LA. I also see that their website is currently up to date, so can’t understand why they don’t answer the phone. I can’t find an email address for them either. Naturally, I’d like them to take a look at my existing 980ti before I splurge for a new card.

Anyway, many thanks for your advice which I greatly appreciate.

    Harry.

PS. If you happen to have an email address for Macvidcards, please let me know.
