You can have 7 and 8 installed and use either one. You just cannot open a .veg file created using Vegas Pro 8 in Vegas 7.

Did you try a CD that you did before that worked?

I have run dual monitors for a couple of years. Started with dual 19″ now I have dual 24″ monitors. One monitor drives me crazy. So go figure.

You need to google the monitors and see opinions. I have never heard much good about the cheaper Samsungs. I could have gotten the 24 inch Samsung at Sams Club for $389.

I have a nVidia 8800GT 512MB Video Super Clocked card with two DVI connectors. I run dual Gateway® FHD2400 24″ Monitors. IMHO it is the only way to go. I love the Gateways, no dead pixels, they have a good quality image and rotate to a portrait view. It’s all about work flow. I do some web design as well and having the editor running along with the website and photoshop is no problem.

April 3, 2008 at 1:56 am in reply to: What to charge for rendering??

I always charge $1 for each 3 hours of render if I am editing the project. I make my money on the actual editing and charge for the media I am using (music, motion and still backgrounds, masks, lower thirds, etc.)

March 13, 2008 at 12:41 am in reply to: Impressive VEGAS review in STUDIO

I couldn’t agree more. I am a one man operation with some help from my wife. I find the Vegas work flow to be great and when you have a lot of work to do it is all about work flow. Lots of guys need other NLEs but for my work I use Vegas. I do a lot of chromakey work with no problems. I really haven’t seen anything else do better. I have seen quick but nothing really better (DV). I save a lot of money using Vegas so I upgrade every year and use the extra money to buy plug-ins, music, backgrounds, training DVDs & other apps like particleIllusion 3. I bought Vegas 4 in 2003 and it is the best money I have ever spent and believe me I have wasted a lot of money in my life.

I recommend the Gateway FHD2400. I bought mine in November and love it. Review at:

I own Adorage, Heroglyph amd Mercalli. I get the proDad newsletter and they do offer special discounts from time to time. The last one was 20% off and was sent in December. However, the links from the email do not work anymore.

With that said I recommend Mercalli as one of the best software plug-ins you can buy. I have had some footage where it doesn’t seem to work very well and other footage where it works fantastic. But I am still learning and there are quite a few settings to work with. It is like color correction. You have to work with it for a while to master it.

If you look at this video you will see Mercalli in action. I left the blurred edges so you can see the corrections it is making.

You need to register to run a legal business. Some communities have business license requirements and typically you need a vendors license. You need to decide if it is a sole proprietorship, corporation, etc. You can probably contact a small business support group to help you. Local sales taxes and property taxes have to be filed on time or you get late fees, etc. Running a business is a big pain in the …you know where. It isn’t terrible as long as it is just you but once you hire someone then you need an accountant.

Each version of Vegas is a new installation and does not require the old version to be installed or deleted. Each has its own serial number.
