You get “Magic Bullet Movie Looks HD” with Vegas 6. It is a plug-in. Must be about 55 effects.

When I bought it one of the criteria was the sound capabilities. For the money spent you get great sound and that makes the movie. You don’t need to spend extra money for it. Saw the demo of FC at NAB and thought gee, I have been doing that all along. My films always have 7 to 10 tracks of sound and music and all controlled several ways. Drag, drop, done.

Nested VEG files is worth the price for me. If you have a lot of media then Media Manager is good. I have hundreds of sound effects that I can catalog. I have them in folders now and that works but media manager is better if you have a lot of stock footage, pictures, sounds and music. I have hundreds of photographs.

  • If you go P4 I would stick with an Intel board. They are stable and I never get system lock-ups. I have a PowerSpec from Micro Center that was a very good price and nearly 2 years old now. I will get a dual core when the price starts to become more reasonable. Next system will need some horsepower when I go to HDV. I most likely will head that way after I get Vegas 7!

  • S-Video just gives a low quality output of what is on the monitor. I use the firewire output in Vegas to get to the external monitor. I go through Canopus 100 but you can do a pass through on your DV camera (if it supports pass through).

  • What nVidia card do you have? I have 5700LE w/256mb and have no problems. Have you downloaded the latest drivers? I run XP not 2000. I have 2 19″ LCD monitors that I run (one VGA and other DVI). I am not using the new monitor feature in Vegas 6 though. I run to a TV via firewire and Canopus.

  • I have 2 Western Digital 7200 USB2 drives that never give me a problem. I have even captured to them without dropped frames. Have had them for almost 2 years. I use WD Spindown/Stop utility. I have never used firewire drives.

I have not used Firewire drives but I have 2 Western Digital USB2 drives and they work fine. I have actually captured video and wrote to these drives and did not have any dropped frames. That was an accident but it did work. Reading off of the drives via Vegas I can only use Draft mode if I want fluid flow of video.
I typically capture to a 160GB internal drive and work on video projects on a 250GB internal drive (both Western Digital 8mb cache). That gives me the best performance.

This is about a 2 year old system in terms of technology. My system board & FSB are similar and I consider it under powered (see my profile). Most of the time I have to view “draft” (I do have a lot of FX but still). I plan to upgrade after the new dual core processors come out. Maybe 64bit. I hope future versions of Vegas improve performance and take advantage of new tech.
