Hello,
You should update what your running as your editing machine. I have seen what you are describing on machines that cannot deliver the CPU speed needed, or from software that is running on your machine at the same time. However, you haven’t defined what you mean by freezing, a few seconds, minutes, never starts again?Try stopping other software that is running and see if that helps. I have a new machine and as I load new software I jump into Vegas Pro 12 and see if there is an impact. So far I discovered that if I run CPU-Z and/or HWMonitor my video image freezes (stops and goes), but the actual timeline continues to play and the video image catches up. When I close out of the two monitoring software programs my video plays perfectly again.

Regardless if Vegas used all cores or not I would still order a multi-core processor. The operating system uses them.

Do you have Vegas setup to use all 4 cores of your CPU? You did not mention what machine your friend has or the time difference between renders. What effects are you using in your project. Many things impact CPU usage.

There is a software/service that seems pretty impressive. There is a monthly fee to use the software but you can create fantastic websites with it. Designed so that you are the webmaster. Beautiful stuff. I have never used it but if I were in the market I would seriously consider them.

There is no way to know that. Vegas 7 had quite a few releases and they came pretty quick. Vegas 8 was 39 days between 8 and 8a but other updates were not as fast nor as many.

I have the expert version. I do use the extra features. I work almost exclusively on footage shot by someone else including the lecture stuff I do. I am always fixing it in post. 🙂

I have both Mercalli and DeShaker. I like Mercalli because I think the image is a bit better and I like it because it is a plug-in. I usually add a little unsharp to the image when using it because the image can get softer when using it. DeShaker can do a good job of reconstructing the frame when stabilizing where Mercalli does a blur, solid border or upscales. However, I do have problems using Mercalli sometimes when stabilizing 8mm film conversions. It doesn’t seem to be able to “see” the movement as well in some cases.

I was able to find the Pro 8 location and copy it to Pro 9 location and now Pro 9 sees it. I am sure an upodate will help everyone who wants to install it.
