    Hi All,
Just read a disturbing post that suggests that Vegas only uses a single core when processing.

I was under the impression that although Vegas does not use the GPU (Vegas 10 aside) for preview and/or processing, it did indeed use whatever multiple cores are available. In other words, the i7 quad processors would be put through their paces.

Would someone please clarify as this makes a huge difference to what specs one should use for a new computer?

    Many thanks,

    Bruce

Sorry – my last post should have been titled as above!

Vegas Pro will use all the cores you can throw at it. if someone is seeing only one core used, it is because they added an FX that is not multi-threaded or a render type that is not multi-threaded and that forces Vegas to only use one core, but Vegas itself will use all of your cores.

    Hi Bruce.

    Mine uses all four cores.

I think it is an abnormal condition if it uses only one.

Thanks for your clarification on this. I was panicking a bit ’cause I had just ordered a new laptop specifically with the i7-840 processor.
    Cheers,

    Bruce

Regardless if Vegas used all cores or not I would still order a multi-core processor. The operating system uses them.
