  • Upgrading to New Deshaker for Vegas 8 Pro

Posted by Steve Edwards on May 25, 2009 at 11:35 pm

I had installed Deshaker and Virtual Dub shortly after I got 8 Pro. Now I see that there is an updated version for both software. Virtual Dub is probably the last version (1.16?) and the new one I think is 1.18. And Deshaker that is now runing as a script on 8 Pro, is Deshake V 2.0, and I think that is two versions old. I saw a version 2.2, and 2.4 ( which I believe 2.4 is current). My problem is, I don’t really know the best way to go about upgrading to the new ones. Do I do a search of those file names in “file search” and delete them and start over, or what?

    Go to:
    https://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.edmiston/deshaker.htm

For latest versions to use. It works in Pro 8 and Pro 9.

I installed the new ones to default areas, but when I go to use on a video, it goes all the way through the process, and when it’s through it says:
” Despite planning for all possible contingencies Deshaker Script had the following error: “The system cannot find the path specified”
What is going on? It did this on my other computer also, that is running Vegas 6.0.

I’d like to know that, and I’d also like to know how it compares to ProDad Mercalli.

It seems a lot of the COW leaders use Mercalli.

I have both Mercalli and DeShaker. I like Mercalli because I think the image is a bit better and I like it because it is a plug-in. I usually add a little unsharp to the image when using it because the image can get softer when using it. DeShaker can do a good job of reconstructing the frame when stabilizing where Mercalli does a blur, solid border or upscales. However, I do have problems using Mercalli sometimes when stabilizing 8mm film conversions. It doesn’t seem to be able to “see” the movement as well in some cases.

Did you buy the Lite version or Expert version. John said that he bought th Expert version, but have never had the need to use the extra features. Still can’t figure what’s wrong with my New Deshaker for Vegas.

I have the expert version. I do use the extra features. I work almost exclusively on footage shot by someone else including the lecture stuff I do. I am always fixing it in post. 🙂
