Correct, but if you want to fully utilize the power of 16 cores, you need the memory. In addition to fully utilize dynamic link with AE, AI, BR, EN, FL, PS, PR and possibly more applications open at the same time you may need that amount quickly.

Who said anything about Dell? If you want to get ripped off, go Dell, if you want a good reliable machine, shop elsewhere.

Aren’t you somewhat behind in terms of recent technology? Who would suggest today to use Xeon 3.6 or P4? Outdated technology.
The question was a supercomputer:
Supercomputers are never cheap, but consider something like this:
1. A blade with 4 quad core CPU’s, giving you 16 cores.
2. 16 GB Ram or more.
3. 150 GB Raptor boot disk
4. Areca Arc 1231 ML Raid controller with 2 GB cache
5. At least 8 disk Raid5 array for media
6. At least 4 disk Raid5 array for projects and scratch
7. nVidia Quadro 1500+ video card, possibly 2
8. etc.That is your basic shopping list.

Scale but you may not like the results, because the sharper close ups will be gone and you will end up with unsharp images.

Xvid is not suitable for editing and Adobe does not like it. Either use MS-DV type 2 AVI or HDV MPEG.

Don’t look under Video Effects, but look in the Effect Controls tab.

As Steven pointed out, capturing is a simple data transfer. It is NOT possible to modify that transfer. Either you transfer or you don’t. No way to have any benefit from monitoring audio meters during capture when you can’t do anything about the levels. If you want to verify levels, do it during shooting.
If you flunked your exam and ended up with only C or D grades, you should have paid more attention during school. No sense in reading about the final results and not being able to do anything about it. Same here.

I am speaking for myself here. Forget it. It takes about five times the disk space, it requires about double the RAM, it has insufficient driver support, it has less performance than XP, it is full of so called security measures which make life much harder, it is convoluted with DRM issues, so overall stay away from Vista, at least till SP1 is out and debugged.

Don’t change anything. A Raptor filled with more than 50% of its capacity will be slower than a 250 GB drive filled to 30%.
