Can anyone point me in the right direction for what hardware I will need for a PC that will need to create 30 min projects a week in Premiere, something powerful I am assuming although I do not know what type of specs would be needed.

    Thanks so much

Aren’t you somewhat behind in terms of recent technology? Who would suggest today to use Xeon 3.6 or P4? Outdated technology.

    The question was a supercomputer:

Supercomputers are never cheap, but consider something like this:

    1. A blade with 4 quad core CPU’s, giving you 16 cores.
    2. 16 GB Ram or more.
    3. 150 GB Raptor boot disk
    4. Areca Arc 1231 ML Raid controller with 2 GB cache
    5. At least 8 disk Raid5 array for media
    6. At least 4 disk Raid5 array for projects and scratch
    7. nVidia Quadro 1500+ video card, possibly 2
    8. etc.

That is your basic shopping list.

16GB of RAM is cool, but you’ll probably need an Intel/Mac
to exploit it because, if I rememeber rightly, PPro is
designed to exploit 16GB of RAM on PC. And even if it was,
it would require a non-XP Pro operating system – and we all
    know how useless Vista is.

Secondly, forget Dell … for anything. Even if you plump
for a Windows machine, plug some expensive Apple monitors
    into it.

Edit: PPro isn’t designed to exploit 16GB of RAM on PC…

Who said anything about Dell? If you want to get ripped off, go Dell, if you want a good reliable machine, shop elsewhere.

Correct, but if you want to fully utilize the power of 16 cores, you need the memory. In addition to fully utilize dynamic link with AE, AI, BR, EN, FL, PS, PR and possibly more applications open at the same time you may need that amount quickly.

hi. you were saying how Dell is a rip off and are useless. I am planning on buying a new computer and i have filled in all the specs i need on a independant computer manufacturers website, Intel Quad Core, 4GB RAM etc. and i filled in exactly the same details when customizing a Dell Pc. The dell PC came out cheaper. Are dell computers bad? Are they really that much of a rip off? Thanks.

The Dells are great IF you only opt for the standard version. No memory upgrades, no CPU upgrade, no additional HD’s, no better video card, etc. Their profit is in selling additional memory or HD’s at twice the going price. They deliver reliable good stuff for the standard configurations. Everything after that is a complete rip-off. For instance, the Dell XPS710, add a 500 GB Samsung Spinpoint disk at a cost of

going back to RAM, can someone explain the supposed 2 gig RAM limitation in XP? For instance if I have a Core 2 Duo, am I limited to 2 gig RAM?

    Thanks
