Sounds like a driver feature of the greatest and latest cards, especially with Vista.

In CS3 up to 16 cores are supported. Matrox RT or Canopus are no options. AJA is an expensive option but OK if you use HD-SDI ingest at 10 bits.

You just have to be aware of it, there is no advantage of one being better than the other. The problem however is that when using different authoring packages, you have to compensate or at least check assumptions made by the applications for field order. It is very easy to forget to check the correct field order and you end up with a coaster.
