Adobe Production Studio CS2 – CS3 Premium worth the upgrade?
Posted by Deleted User on August 31, 2007 at 12:06 amHello,
I am thinking of upgrading to the Adobe Production Premium CS3 from my Production Premium CS2.
I have looked on the Adobe website, but I cant see the major differences with the Premiere pro cs3 as there do not seem to be any difference in the software but osme extra plugins and database searchs for the Media managment.
Is there any increase in performance in cs3? Is it worth upgrading for?
Thanks,
Leo

August 31, 2007 at 1:01 amWhile there aren’t very many new features in Premiere Pro CS3, the features that have been included are fantastic and worth the upgrade price.
Also, with the new suite, you get updated versions of After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Encore, OnLocation and Ultra.
Thirdly, there have been significant memory enhancements in Premiere Pro, which again make it worthwhile.

Yes.
Then again, price is relative. If those features aren’t important enough for you, don’t upgrade. For me it is worth it and hence I pay for it.

August 31, 2007 at 5:23 pmSome people may think differently about that, as instead of paying $ 1400 for a meager upgrade, they can get Vegas+DVD Studio for around 1/3 of the price, or Avid Xpress Pro 5.x for the same price as Adobe upgrades.

August 31, 2007 at 9:48 pmIt’s more like is there a feature that you can’t live without? If you need it, then how much price you are willing to pay?
Up to last year I was religiously updating to new vers reading those reviews and articles that tell us how it will improve your work flow. Finally I realized that this is 95% marketing and 5% substance.
I haven’t upgraded this time and, will wait until they provide P2/DVCpro50/HD native support that I really need. Until then no more updates. So far it hasn’t affected any of my work!!!
In you case this may not be the case so start with analysis of your own requirements, feature that you need to perform the job. Also look at the alternative like Avid, Sony and if you are familiar with Mac side then FCP before throwing away your hard earn money.
Anyway before/during NAB most of them will announce new ver so if you can just wait until then… -

Seems like solid advice to me.

September 3, 2007 at 1:46 amIt depends on what you are doing. Movies? HD? Probably the Adobe bundle with Cineform. Wedding videos? Vegas.

If you work with HDV, you might be better off getting Xpress Pro for the $1400 instead of upgrading. I had so many problems with PPro CS3 and HDV (which didn’t exist in 2.0), I couldn’t finish any of my projects.
I had to start the projects over in Xpress Pro and haven’t had a single problem at all.
I love the new versions of the other programs in the suite, but I don’t know if they are worth $1400.

January 26, 2009 at 8:51 pmIf you like using creative suite I would do the upgrade I have production studio CS2 however the green screen wasn’t as good as Ultra 2 so I bought Ultra 2 seperate and used it with my CS 2 I replaced my harddrive and reloaded my programs. Adobe refused to activate my ultra and suggested that I upgrade to CS 3 after a little whining and crying on my part they activated it one last time as a “favor” to me. So I’m assuming that eventually they will Quit activating older programs in order to force you into an upgrade anyway. I love adobe and have been very pleased with my software but if I would have known there was a limit on the time I could use it I would have went in another direction.

April 1, 2009 at 3:46 pmI just wanted to say Thanks to Adobe for not letting those of us with older programs hang.I just found out that Adobe is going to release the serial key so we can self activate Ultra they didn’t say that before when I tried to activate it last time. but the fact remains they are still activating older programs. so I will retract my earlier statement about forcing us into upgrades thank you Adobe you have restored my faith I will continue to use, buy and reccomend your products, Ron
