export a lieing CMX edl from FCP and name the reels with five characters or less.
I have never done this but I think it will work. Just ensure you have used no more than 4 audio tracks. You can make another EDL for extra tracks if you have em.

You’ll wanna use After Effects for this. Pan and Scan is just kind of a band aid for those of us who have yelled about full sized graphic imports for years. It’s limiting and it’s quite aliased just like their DVE. I don’t use it at all.
After Effects is still every Avid editors best freind.

Avi’s tracker is not great so you’ll often have best results with just one tracker. You can add one per corner though. Don’t confuse it’s corner pin effect with how it works in AE. It’s just a shape effect in Avid.
I’d use a PIP effect, add one tracker than shape as needed.

I may be totally wrong but I think if you just rename that test clip with 5 character or less you’ll be golden with ALE. The CMX edl still wants reel name 5 characters or less and unless I am misunderstanding, all of your clips are gonna reference this one clip.

    lemme know if that works.

It was just less confusing when Media Composer was called an Avid, believe it or not.

Media Composer is now a software you can buy and put it on your hardware.
Mojo is their low end break out box. … a hardware for Media Composer.
Adrenaline was their break out box that kicked off their… change in the way they did things.
Nitris DX is their solution to Adrenaline and does most of what Adrenaline was suppose to.

You are best off hitting Avid.com for product lists and feature lists. Some of us liked it better when there was less gamble involved in the purchase.

My main thought was “man that little girl is totally push that chick off that ladder”
    lol
Looks like ya had fun and you learned along the way. You are starting right. MOvie maker is the place to start. Outgrow it as your needs surpass it’s capabilities. You’ll dig applications like Premiere and Vegas. Both are capable apps and both offer bang for the buck. Vegas offers more in the way of audio and is not expensive at all.
Google em (and other NLE softwares) and pick your favorite flavor. Keep having fun.

and don’t be putting chicks on ladders on the freakin deck anymore. Dadgum I think I’ve made safetly videos with that scene in it.

You don’t have to draw a line.
Offline editors were cutters that could save budget by telling a story without eating up big dolalrs in the suite that cost 500 an hour. Today we can take a much more non linear approcah (literally) and simply make a show, never drawing that line at all. It’s my opinion that if you can’t offer sound design, compisiting and at least a little bit of animation, you are greatly handicapping yourself as an editor. Today’s editors are show makers, wearing the hats of everything from logger to producer.

There is no industry standard on plugins, just personal favorites but if you do not know After Effects today, again you are greatly limiting your marketability. These simply are not two different jobs anymore.

It just dawned on me that interplay is external and doesn’t always play.

I always just turn super on on my deck and lay off burn ins externally when needed. With QTs and wmv files, they can just read the numerical markers provided.
