It’s quite common. Our local cable company often boasts about their HD service. The dude who came out to “upgrade” us actually went into a pitch telling me how it was uncompressed and componant.
It comes into the house via coax. lol
I have an Avid Adrenaline so HD is not an option as an end result here yet but the truth is, I’ve no need to upgade yet as all of my clients are SD. My biggest client, a satallite network, airs composite mono and sadly, man I don’t think most who watch it even know or care. I know of only one station here in town that would accept an HD tape and they’d transfer it to beta if I turned it in that way. HD is much more of a buzz word than a requirement in many cases. Much like the word Avid was in ’95. This will change over time but it will be some time before it does.

6 months on one show is kind of wack and will prolly get ya booted out on this prop but your normal hourly rate is quite the norm. If offering a weekly discount, you can round down a little, especially if bidding such an obsurd time frame but know that this will take you off the market for that long too so shooting yourself in the foot is quite possible if offering something like 2500 a week.
You mentioned they like your work, want you on the gig and are willing to pay more for it. May as well charge em accordingly.

A flat price is how you’ll sell it in. Of course there is nor norm for price point on this as artists’ popularities vary… and that is always more when they move on to the next life. I can tell you to get it at the time of the deal. The powers that be are not always scammers but they are always dreamers. They may talk big but don’t get sucke dinto their dream. Get what you need and hand it over. It will do ya good to look at these artists like ya would a local band. No money… big talk. Aint bashin’, just stating what I know. I’m an artist too. and I dream big too. I just don’t do that when talking money with someone doing business.

step 3: call 1-800-800-avid and explain the situation.
step 4: agree with em when they say “hmmm, well it otta work fine.”
step 5: hang up and yell stupid focker again.
step 6: run avg antivirus and see whats up.
step 7: repeat all steps but step 3 if that doesn’t work.
step 8: swap it out with one that works fine and place your youngest editor on the poopy one.
step 9: blame it all on him and tell him to fix it.
step 10: youtube his reaction and make sweet fungage from the viral campaign.. uhm no pun intended.

I can’t for the life of me think of what someone would want with somone else’s business cards.
You in no way are obligated to give them a free product. On the other hand, if the artwork they provided is a registered trademark, you’re in a pickle. You can’t sell that.

First, man, bad business is NOT the name of the game. Roll around with pigs and your simply gonna get dirty.
No, you are no screwed. Go collect what is owed in person and then do not do business with these fools anymore. Relocate if you have to. Sounds like you will sooner or later anyway.
I’ve told this lil story here a time or two but it surely comes to mind again.
A dude was found all burned in his bed. When saved, he was aked “how did your bed ctach on fire?” He answered, “I dunno… it was on fire when I laid down on it.”
Don’t go laying on burnin’ beds, man.
