If ram preview is fine but the output is not I would double check my render settings just to make sure the frame rate is the same.

Also it’s best not to change the frame rate of the composition to something other then what the footage is or what you track it on from mocha because it tends to cause misalignment and slipping though I’m not sure if that’s the problem in you case since you said it was fine.

    hope that helps

Not sure you can do that since everything is based on the documents FPS.

Understanding your flash analogy from when I use to use it another way is to use Xref’s which has is essentially importing another scene into another. It has it’s own control for it’s animation somewhat but it’s still based on the scene that it’s in so you would have play a lot with it and might have a similar problem I think.

My suggestion would be to use a after effects with cinema 4D. C4D exports a file that you could import into AE then using a external composting tag and a object buffer to mask the area on the plane. You could place any image or video on the plane and control and remap the timing easier in after effects then in cinema 4d.

    Hope this helps

July 25, 2011 at 2:49 pm in reply to: Real time playback

If your getting this view in your playback when right before it was shadded and looked fine then it usually means your computer can’t keep up with the playback do to your lack of resources from your graphics card, ram, CPU Hard Drive or other computer process.

You could try lowering the shading type to constant shading and see if that helps. It looks like your trying to render a bunch of particles so it just might be too memory intensive for the playback to handle. You may want to lower the amount for playback purposes then ramp it up when rendering.

    Hope this helps

July 22, 2011 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Transition smoothly from 3D Page turn to 2D in AE

Not sure how your scene is setup so this could totally(…) fail but my thought is have a compositing tag on the page to make the area.

Then you could have a still from your ae animation for the begining when the page turns. Once the page is done filpping you could comp on the ae animation after the still shot page using your buffer image to mask the area.
I’m thinking you would have do some layer mode blending and/or deforming the ae comp for animation on the book using the built in tools or freeform since it can deform in 3d space I believe. You could use the still method when you need to change the page.

This might still be awkward since you do have to wait for the page turn to finish. Ideally it would be cool to keep it moving during the page turn. But other then putting animation on the texture or using some other high end compositing software I don’t know how though I’m sure I’ve seen this done somewhere…

Hope this helps some what, and if you don’t mind please share your solution

  • Not completely sure what you trying to do but if you want to make an object glow in 3d then you can turn on the glow channel in the material options.

It might be better to add the glow in after effects so you have more control. You could add a compositing tag to the object and render an object buffer so you could add glow to just that object in after effects.

If you comping it together then ae you could comp a reflection on to the footage.

    hope this helps.

July 20, 2011 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Parent to an object in another Comp

If I understand you correctly you just want to know how you connect values between comps.

If that is it you can drag one compositions timeline panel above the other by clicking and dragging the tab above until you see the blue shapes that tell you where you are placing it.

Then you can just pick whip the values from one composition to the other.

If you happen to have expression controllers you can lock the effects panel with the lock in the tab then open the other composition and pick whip the values.

or you can just type the code below

    hope this helps

    comp("Comp name").layer("your layer name").value

Hmm if it’s just a simple knockout and you don’t need to worry about the actual colors you could try using the bump or displacement channels via a texture. Then you could get an impression of the object. Bump might look really fake at close range so displacement might be better since it effects the geometry but it does slow things down.

Try using the some of the deformers. I would suggest checking out either surface or wrap ones. Though others might work better depending on the look your going for.

July 19, 2011 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Tracer Question

I can think of three way to do this and I’m sure there are more.

The easiest I can think of is to use the cs tool which has a 3d stroke path already setup to do pretty much what you have in mind I think.
    https://circlesofdelusion.blogspot.com/.

You could use this tentacle pack, https://dagpx.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d3gsums, that use’s tracer object with particles. I have used this my self in a little animation, https://vimeo.com/25383661

Another idea would be to use what you have modeled and use the spline wrap to control it on the spline. You just need enough divisions in your model for it to bend correctly.

    Hope this help,

July 19, 2011 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Adding an effect to a part of the screen.

If the effect is applied to an adjustment layer above you can make a mask above your footage using the mask tool to section off an area. Then you could add some feather to it so it has a smooth drop off unless you want sharp edge on the edge of the mask.

    Hope this helps,
