Not a stupid question at all Bruce.
my answer to any sequence settings is usually this…
drag any clip to the create “new item” icon found at the bottom of the project panel, and prem will automatically setup the correct sequence preset for you. (it’s the one that looks like a page with a fold)
I normally use Go-pro footage within my DSLR presets so i will need to render every time i put a go-pro clip in that timeline. mostly because i shoot with the Go-pro at 60fps 720p and my projects are setup at 25fps 1080p to suit the bulk of my DSLR clips. if you are only using go-pro clips then i would suggest using the shortcut explained above. But make sure to use a 24/25/30fps clip for your drag and drop, as that will then become your timeline sequence setting. unless of course you want to edit in 50 or 60fps?
to your second question, yes you can integrate multiple formats onto one timeline but you would have to render each new clip. the best bet is to use a sequence that matches the bulk of your footage.
hope that helps

Hi Michael.
Sounds like a great job!
I have done a few shoots off of boats and love using twixtor.
i have a few posts on my site that may help.
we recently had a shoot in Greece for Mark Warner Resorts which meant a fair amount of content shot out on the water following sailing boats and windsurfers. I would suggest a good shoulder mount and a good IS or OS lens. You could consider going for the 550D or even the 60D which both shoot 50 and 59.97 fps but are a bit cheaper than the 7D.
For our Underwater shots we used an EWA Marine bag, which is not the easiest to use as it has no weight or stability in the water but for the price, you can manage to get some great shots. unfortunately anything wider than a 15mm and you will have to crop the footage to avoid seeing the EWA’s font ring in the shot.
but the wider the lens the better when using something like that. For on the boat i used a canon 70-200mm f4L, but i am really finding my sigma 17-50 2.8 very useful for stuff like that. It’s good to get a zoom lens that has a constant aperture as you dont have to move the boat to get as many different shots as possible.
For shots from the beach make sure you have a good fluid head tripod.here’s a few post on my site that may help
the mark warner project (sorry not 100% complete yet) – https://gregbrand.co.uk/2011/06/the-mark-warner-project/
there is a small section about the EWA Marine there.and on using twixtor – https://gregbrand.co.uk/2010/09/7d-550d-slow-mo-test/
the most important thing i learned when it comes to using twixtor is to shoot your subject on a plain background, for eg. a blue sky.hope that helps
sorry i couldn’t be more specific, but shout if there is something specific you need to know.cheers

Not sure if this is just adding fuel to the fire, but so far, this was the only workaround that actually did work for me…
got this off of some forum post, couldn’t really tell you where…

Hi tomgeraedts,This poor C4D export behavior has been an issue for Boujou since they updated from version 4.0 to 4.1. At that update they changed from using a LightWave version 1 file to a LightWave 3 file type. Even though it says it’s a C4D file they use the Lightwave file format. I can’t tell you why they messed it up but I can tell you how to fix it and get a good track into Cinema.
Here’s how:
In Boujou
when exporting C4D type
Set ‘Start Index’ to 0, not to the ‘default’
failure to do this can result in the C4D file having the first frame twice, which causes your 3D export to be one frame longer and when placed in your AE comp it will be one frame behind. If you’ve already rendered then just offsetting the layer in AE will fix that issue too.
After C4D export, open the *.c4d file in any text editor
Do a search for “Key -3.141593”
Change it to “Key 0.00000”
Change the value directly above that from “Key -0.00000” to “Key 0.000000”
Now do a document wide find and replace:Find – “ParentItem 10000001”
Replace with – “ParentItem 10000002”This makes all your null objects children of the proper layer – “reference_points” and not the camera
Save all changes, and close file.
Now open the file in C4D and all should be correct.
Why this bug wasn’t fixed with version 5.0 is beyond me because I know they got complaints about it after the update from 4.0 to 4.1. At least it’s an easy fix once you know what to do. Perhaps it fell through the cracks with the change from 2D3 to Vicon.
Good luck 3D motion tracking,
Cheers

oh and these vids were a little painful but they did help a lot

Hi Jim
I made a post about working with Proxies a while back.
maybe this may help…
https://gregbrand.co.uk/2010/03/proxy-editing-with-canon-5dmkii-native-footage/As for your second question, I guess that would be up to you.
Are you able to grade well enough with the low res proxies or do you have the time to wait for the Effects Render on the originals? either way, your render time should be the same i.e grading on the originals OR updating form the graded proxies to the originals.Hope that helps.

in Prem cs5 you can just drag a clip onto the “new item” icon and it will setup the best sequence settings automatically
hope that helps

I had the same error once and after much searching
found that it was the AE plugins installing themselves
into the adobe common folder instead of the AE plugins folder. After I moves them to the right place, renders worked out fine with AME. Not sure that will work but
it may be worth a tryHope that helps

Card readers are actually quite cheap.
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chip-i-Fast-SD-SDHC-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer-USB-2-UK-/200564039528?pt=UK_Photography_MemoryCardReaders_RL&hash=item2eb28c5f68#ht_1035wt_937the reason your files don’t show up on your osx, is because the mac does not see the camera as an external device. the card reader will solve this problem.
hope that helps

“ingesting”? 🙂
I assume you mean capturing or simply copying/moving files from the camera to you PC/mac?try buying a good card reader, that way you wont need the camera and can sometimes capture multiple cards.
hope that helps

I think this may help

If you on Mac, Screenflow works great.
