    Hi
Because of the limitations of my hardware, I am forced to both use CS4 AND downsample my original high res files(1920X1080 H.264) to something smaller my machine can handle as proxies.

1-What is a recommended size and codec to use for proxies?

2-Unclear as to what stage you need to swap in your high res files. Is it immediately AFTER your editing but before any color correction- grading, OR can you wait just until before your final render?

    Hi Jim

I made a post about working with Proxies a while back.
    maybe this may help…

As for your second question, I guess that would be up to you.
Are you able to grade well enough with the low res proxies or do you have the time to wait for the Effects Render on the originals? either way, your render time should be the same i.e grading on the originals OR updating form the graded proxies to the originals.

    Hope that helps.
