“i assume there is some compromise in picture quality inherent in these methods that wouldn’t be present working with these files in fcp.”

    Hi,

Using our plugins – there should no compromise in picture quality – we do have some Gamma Options that you can tweak but that won’t affect any of the noise you are reporting.

I also saw your posts on dvinfo.net

“well, that works. oddly, the raw dv looks about the same as QT (and VLC, etc) playback of the mp4 or mxf.”

It seems that viewing XDCAM EX MP4 files using our plugins in QT, VLC, XDCAM EX ClipBrowser, and DV MOV in QT downconverted via XDCAM EX Clip Browser from a MP4 – all show the same noisy footage, correct? If so, it might be then that the footage you are attempting to view is noisy. You can email me at info@calibratedsoftware.com and I can give you our ftp info and I can look at a MP4 file if you want.

Also, our free Calibrated MXF QuickStat application isnt a plugin or application to play MXF files – it’s just an application that lets people see the properties of a MXF file.

    Cheers,
    Greg

  • Hi,

PPro CS3 should be able to auto-join the P2 MXF Files on import. If the P2 MXF files are still in the proper P2 folder structure, you should be able to just import the Video Folder and then PPro will auto-link all of the Video MXF Files with their matching Audio MXF Files. From there, you could export QuickTime Movies out of PPro using the Apple Intermediate Codec and edit those MOV’s in FCE.

We also offer a couple of QuickTime plugins that could help you edit the P2 clips natively in FCE:

    Calibrated{Q} MXF Import for OSX
    https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImport_Mac.asp

    Calibrated{Q} DVCProHD Decode for OSX
    https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QDVCProHD.asp

Basically, these two plugins will let you import the P2 DVCProHD MXF files into FCE – but you’ll still have to use the Apple Intermediate Codec as the renderer. We haven’t formally tested a FCE workflow with our plugins, but we have quite a few customers that use our plugins in that scenario. Demo’s can be downloaded for free at our website so you can try out if you want.

But if you are eventually going to buy FCP then I would suggest just saving up your money and converting P2 MXF Files with PPro – and if you need any help getting PPro working with P2 MXF Files, feel free to email me at info@calibratedsoftware.com

    Cheers,

    Hi,

The uninstall instructions are in the ReadMe but basically:

    1. Delete Calibrated folder in Applications directory
    2. Delete CalibratedDVCProHdCodec.component from the Library/Quicktime folder
    3. Restart

    And you’re done

    Hi Peter,

In answer your questions that apply to Calibrated{Q} MXF Import:

    1. The Calibrated{Q} MXF Import version you are using limits clips to only showing 30 seconds – because it’s the demo version. The full version, which you have to buy, does not have this demo limitation.

    2. Our plugin will not ‘auto-assemble’ a spanned clip within FCP, but it will auto-marry all of the separate P2 video/audio mxf files with timecode and remove pulldown, as long as the MXF files are in the proper P2 MXF folder structure.

    Cheers,
    Greg
