Playing HDV .mov files on Windows
We edit using FCP and Macs in our company, but the rest of the office is on Windows. We save finished movies in Quicktime using either an HDV or XDCAM codec. However, our Windows users cannot open either of those .mov files with their versions of Quicktime, (even with the most recent version of Quicktime). I suspect that they’re missing a codec, but HDV is not listed on Apple’s website.
Does anyone know the solution? They may not be able to play XDCAM movies without working on a Mac loaded with FCP 6. Does anyone know how a Windows user can play .mov files with a HDV or XDCAM codec? Thanks.

THey can’t…pure and simple. Those QT codecs that you captured them as only come with FCP. Even another Mac wouldn’t be able to open these files if it didn’t have FCP installed.
The only solution is to use Compressor and convert them to h.264.

you can try too with Lightworks, is a free software, and you can convert any QT file to an usable media in windows.
