  • That’s odd. If Photoshop sees it, I’m surprised AE doesn’t.

Would you be prepared to share it here, or drop me an email at shiveringc at gmail.com – I could see if it works for me.

  • And you can’t use an Alpha Matte in the track matte settings? And if you can’t what about the Set Matte effect?

Gosh, there’s a lot of different things going on. The big skill you need is patience.

    I’d suggest theres:

    • Animated shape paths
    • CC Sphere for the spheres with textures from precomps
    • Plenty of stacked glows
    • There’s some puppet tool use in there with the plants

Thanks to it being on Instagram, every time I click off to add a bullet point it resets and being Instagram I can’t seem to scrub forward, so I gave up. Budget for something like this, pick an hourly rate you won’t drop below and assume 3 hours per shot/element. Spinning globe with eyes and cartoon-y background, that’s probably 3 hours. Add the hands and drop, another hour. Blobs attacking a sphere, 1-2 hours to get the look right, another hour to duplicate the blobs.

Once you’ve scoped it out, add 25% again for revisions. If your time comes in at 20 hours, add an extra 5 hours. But make it clear that’s what it is, e.g.

“It’ll take 20 hours, plus I’ve also budgeted 5 hours for revisions. These are for minor revisions, allowing for re-timing, colour changes of course. If you want new sequences or completely new sequences, that will need to be estimated separately”.

Storyboards, no matter how basic, will be your friend here.

  • I think I’d probably use Essential Graphics to handle the different images. That would get me an interchangeable effect. Then its just a case of dropping each image into a new comp and adding the essential graphics comp.

Alternatively, if you made a single comp 100 rotations long, and used all your flags as an image sequence precomp (add them all and then use Sequence Layers), you could make a single comp, and chop that up after rendering. Not sure it would be any quicker.

I think it is certainly possible to create this in After Effects. CC Radial Fast Blur is the key.

This tutorial by Andrew Kramer talks you through most of what you’re trying to achieve.

Try adding a slider for your duration value, then altering your pingpong expression to this:

    loopOutDuration("pingpong", effect("Slider Control")("Slider"));

You can then keyframe the slider, the smaller the number the faster the flapping. ?It’s adding a pause between pingpong cycles, so you probably want to go from 1 to 0.5

I feel that. I know you know all the obvious fixes, but one I had recently was I had AEJuice installed and after an AE update, that killed my rendering. Removing that fixed my problem. Not too fair on AEJuice, but it sorted the issue for me.

Generally this is down to the player used as to what happens. The simplest solution is to add time to the end of the video, so that the final frame lasts for 5 minutes.

Is it possible to ask to see a previous video, if that was the method, then you’re sorted.

Alternatively you could convert to a GIF using photoshop and in the Save for Web settings there’s an option for looping.

August 11, 2022 at 2:34 pm in reply to: 4-Color gradient presets anywhere?

That’s a nice resource. And I don’t know if they exist as AE presets anywhere, but the website is quite interactive. You can easily grab the colours in the gradients and create your own. I’d probably use a layer style gradient overlay instead of a 4-color gradient, but it’s simple enough to then save them as a preset.

Sorry, I know it’s taken a week for anyone to respond – but I think that’s because you didn’t include a link or picture. There’s lots of glitch looks, I did a tutorial recently with my wife where she wanted to learn how to make glitches:
