There’s two options i use. First off, the free filter called Knoll Unmult, it removes the black automatically and is really, a very useful little tool.

However, if that doesn’t achieve the desired effect, then you could use the layer with a transfer mode, such as Add. I normally double the layer to get a stronger effect.

    Hope that helps

If you don’t have the budget to get Knoll lens flare, you can achieve similar-ish results using the standard lens flares, hue/saturation and altering the width of the black solid you apply the lens flare to.

It was probably Mokey, it is absolutely awesome if you’ve got the cash. i downloaded the evaluation copy a while ago and was blown away by what it could do. Unfortunately it wasn’t until after i downloaded it did i notice the price tag, which i can’t find again.

The other one people talk about is Boujou. Chances are it was one of these two you read about

A slghtly easier approach is if you convert your audio to keyframes and then use CC split or something similar to open and close the mouth. it distorts the jaw too.

An expression like this on the split control sorts out the timing:

    thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”)

There’s a couple of different ways you can accomplish this, i think.

Firstly, try out Wave Warp, which also produces a nice wiggle.

However, this option will end up with the string getting thicker and thinner in different places. Alternatively, you could set some extra, different keyframes of the path and then use Time Remapping to randomly jump between those keyframe. You can’t apply the Wiggler directly to the Mask keyframes, but you could use it to on the Time Remap keyframes to control their spacing.

    Hope that helps

  • Hi Joe

AE’s Reshape is relatively eaier to come to terms with, there’s Chris Zwar’s tutorial here which is probably the best thing to work through.

    hope that helps

If the freebies don’t help and you’ve no money, then AE’s own vector paint can work almost as well.

Create a new black solid over the layer, set the transfer mode to color burn, goto the frame where you want the flash and paint a jagged flash shape in a light yellow colour. Use a feathered brush ideally. you should get a white blob tinged with yellow. Advance one frame and draw a smaller blob. And that’s it!

I’ve used this for ages and am very happy with the result.
