I do it with Time Remapping:

An amazing way to use time remapping is to create cartoon character lip-synching. To do this make a precomp of single frame images of a mouth with different phonemes. Sequence the layers so that they last one frame, and don

    Thanks very much Aharon.

A slghtly easier approach is if you convert your audio to keyframes and then use CC split or something similar to open and close the mouth. it distorts the jaw too.

An expression like this on the split control sorts out the timing:

    thisComp.layer(“Audio Amplitude”).effect(“Both Channels”)(“Slider”)

Fair enough. My way is a precise way of matching mouth phonemes, but takes a bit longer (though once you’re in the swing of it, it goes fast). Graham’s way is much faster, but it won’t really match the words other then in motion- still good for a quick fix and sometimes/often all you really need.

This thread is very helpful, but I am a newby and perhaps you can explain something.

I have a character in profile with his jaw on a separate layer. The jaw layer pivots on the anchor point, moving downward when he speaks. I converted the audio to key frames, copied the audio amplitude perameters, and pasted that into the jaw layers Value :Rotation.

The problem is that the jaw goes UP instead of down. Is there a way to invert the audio amplitude before I paste it?

    Thanks
