    HI i have an explosion video on a black background
    and no matte
    what is the best way to use it with a video?
    keying out the black?
    or there’s a better way?

    There’s two options i use. First off, the free filter called Knoll Unmult, it removes the black automatically and is really, a very useful little tool.

    However, if that doesn’t achieve the desired effect, then you could use the layer with a transfer mode, such as Add. I normally double the layer to get a stronger effect.

    Unmult was especially written for compositing explosions and other elements shot against black. This is usually your best option. And it’s free.
