  • [james spicer] “Why doesn’t Vegas import the video to it’s actual colours? At least it seems like it doesn’t.”

James, put up a Vegas Scope and view the results. Hint1: You’re viewing the output within VLC and then comparing that to the VP internal Preview. What we get with VP are the TRUE view of content. How we THEN render and on what Viewer we watch content needs to be considered by you. Hint2: VLC is “crushing” those blacks/darks. Hint3: You’re viewing VLC on your PC.

VP isn’t doing anything wrong at all. Understanding your Preview workflows is now what you need to wrangle.

[Tim Neighbors] “or has it been abandoned?”

Hi Tim, mostly yeah. Pity really. It’s not supported anymore, but still lurks and can be revealed under Internal Prefs. Once in IP type MANAGER and you should see it appear. Set TRUE and I’ve got it revealed. But going forward I’m now using VP Favourites, which has its own issues.

[Bruce Quayle] “Thanks to both Graham and John for your valuable advice.”

You’re welcome ????. What you get from me, hopefully, is patient persistence, served up with a splash of levity thrown in. Oh yeah, I’ll say when it’s beyond my knowledge.

[Bruce Quayle] “Could I have installed the card incorrectly? “

This is way beyond my pay-grade, but we need to establish that the GPU is functioning correctly. Could you run diagnostic tests on your GPU? Would you remove and reseat it? Would you completely remove/delete your GPU Drivers and install afresh?

    I’m trying here…..????

[Bruce Quayle] “Vegas sees the card in “Preferences” where I can add the card to my video processing. I tick the “Legacy GPU” box in “General”.”

Bruce? Are you attempting to get your GPU recognised within a Render Template? I’m confused……Can you walk me through the EXACT steps you’re using to get VP to recognise your GPU? For GPU acceleration I set mine through Options > Preferences and then Video. My thoughts are that you’ve not done this and as such you’re attempting to select GPU in the Render Menu of a Render Template. The other thing is to ensure your GPU Drivers are up to date.

Apart from George’s requests for information, please use the MediaInfo freebie to tell us exactly what is inside that AVI. Also, a list of the FXs you’re using. How much SPACE do you have on your LAPTOP?

  • [Ian Chapman] “grazie, I see you use the xf300 as I do myself. Just wondering if you have installed any specific picture profiles over time which you could share, or do you adjust in post? “

Ian, sorry nothing to share. I’ve shot plain vanilla and get everything as much as possible within cadence Parameters for Vegas. However I do use Polarisers and a Matt Box for extra NDs and Grads to wrangle-in wayward exposures that can occur at an angle. I suppose that makes me old style ????….. I DID initially experiment with the Presets, downloading some that could make a difference. However, in my working experience, being a one man band, I just make sure I’m getting the look I want through glass and lighting. Having a range of presets to share are excellent for multiple shooters to get on the same page. ….. Maybe I should experiment more? Oh yeah, I’ve just needed to UG my Bridge Camera to pre-iteration of the SX70 and got a SX60 which runs at 30fps and 60fps which has been a revelation to me. I’m really liking the 30fps. Yeah, I know, it’s old now – I’m slow to catch on ????.
