“… but I feel like there is a better way. “ Well, I can’t see a way if you already have a “graphic” of the arrow you are using. BUT if you are starting afresh with a “text” generated Arrow – here I’ve used a Webdings arrow – then straight away there are 2 no-brainer, single track options for you:-
Option 1] Standard Sony Text using the Webdings arrow set at whatever size you fancy, and apply an Outline to the arrow with your choice of colour. The drawback with is is that the BIGGER you make the Outline the more feathering is apparent, ‘cos that’s what it is supposed to do.
Option 2] I like this one! Using Protype Titler, also choose a Webdings arrow, but here in Titler you have far more control over size of the border (called “Stroke” here), and I can get a sharp border too, it doesn’t feather out. Just for your information I have got one that has a border (stroke) that is BIGGER than what it is surrounding! Very impressive.
So, this all depends on what your approach is going to be: EITHER, use the Graphic you have (is it a graphic, or is it a Text Arrow?) in which case it is the 2 track option or Photoshop OR ditch the arrow you have and use a Text Arrow with all the simplicity that one of the Generated Media TEXT functions that Vegas can easily supply.
It is up to you. But you have asked a great question that goes to the very core, poise and purpose of Vegas functionality and what it is you want to achieve with Vegas.
For my money, all these ways are beneficial – but it is the knowing how this stuff works with what we are left with and THAT is the REAL beneficial outcome – yeah?
Great question, and truly, thank you for asking it,

The timings on that sample were out of whack? So if I am looking at what you provided as correct then try this:-
1] Track1 has the overlay of the slanted Desat+Red media. Create the slant by using Bezier Masking.
2] Using Track Motion move the Track 1 Event from Right to Left

April 2, 2009 at 8:50 am in reply to: overlapping video on one track – “bring to front”Adam, unless I am missing something, I also “heard” Jill.
How is this, adding Tracks, different in terms of function, to adding Layers in a Graphics Editor? I was responding to Jill’s request to how to add layers as if it were a Graphics Package – bring back to front or bottom to top and middle to back and so on and so forth. If I wish to “layer” a graphic then I need Layers. If I want something similar in Vegas I add a Track. Simples!

April 2, 2009 at 6:33 am in reply to: overlapping video on one track – “bring to front”You want the same functionality of a Graphics Editor: Bring to Top – yes? Then why not just move the track? Done!
Track Position 1 Photo1
Track Position 2 Photo2
Track Position 3 Photo3And after moving:
Track Position 1 Photo3
Track Position 2 Photo1
Track Position 3 Photo2Now, if you use Drag as Takes from your Project Media Bin you can add as takes TO a single Event and then you ALSO have the option to HIT “T” to select a Take – an individual Photo – too!
So, Control Drags + Track Position Moves will give you many options. Move track position will bring Media top bottom or ANY layer you want.
Now, if you have sets of Track Motion you want to retain, then make THEM Children to a Parent and move the parent – the Kidz will follow .. well mostly .. depends if there is Ice Cream on offer or not!!!
I have done MUCH graphics work in VEgas, but ssshhhh don’t tell everybody . ..

Excellent CS “workflow” question!
This is how I do it. And this was after watching the CS tutorials and Mr Gary Rebholz – Training Manager for SONY Creative Software – at IBC in Amsterdam Holland.
1] I work ALL my CS requirements as part of a Vegas Audio track – Period!
2] No need to render out anything until I’m good and ready to go.
3] OK! This is the one of the real bonuses of CS – I can keep my own CS variations as a globally available future music sequence! I can save that version and use it in other Veggies.
My advise would be to experiment around your workflow to get to the one you prefer.
Does this help?

How does the video look on the Vegas Timeline? Is that dark? How are you getting the image to the TV screen now? Have you produced a DVD? If so, what were the settings?
My point is this, IF you are saying that you are ONLY seeing dark once it has been produced for the TV, maybe the settings to go to the TV are incorrect? Or the TV needs to be reset too?

[Dan Newell] “How problematic is this?” Can you do Copy and Paste? That’s how difficult it gets.
And of course we can’t import Word Docs or Text per se, but Copy Paste – gets me through.
I do this into one of the Generated Media TEXT options – normally SONY Sample Text – and that’s it.
If you want this “over” some existing Video Media than you have to place it on a track ABOVE that Media.

You have EITHER not set your Project properties to match your media OR not set your Mask to your Project properties OR both. My guess is that you have imported some 16×9 media, that you have “acquired” into a 4×3 project and then applied a reduced 4×3 mask within this format attempting to “mask” what you do not want to see. And the other thing you have done is then render out using a template that is NOT covering the error you created from the outset – i.e. not matching the media to the project.
The thing is very messy. If I were you, I would start again and match my Project to the Media and be done. The “lines” are indicative of a mismatch of media format ratio to Project. We all do it!

I have not had this happen to me, but I have read that this COULD be a factor of recently installing Sound Forge? Have you done this? Or upgraded SF? It does sound like your WH FX has become deregistered from the pack of Fxs you do posses.

If it is the same as DVD authoring then use the “End Action” option to play the same Chapter or sequence again and again until you hit Menu. OR, if Blu Ray players have an A<>B option to loop on the zapper do it that way?
