Pop the card in the reader, the media shoul appear in the media tool(select only the disk your interested in at the media tool menu -all projects, disk x/y/x)You can cut straight from there, or safer is selct the media you need, drag to a bin and consolidate or transcode onto one of you drives.

You should also be able to just drag and drop from the sisk at desktop level into a bin though in this instance you need to check your import setings for both audio and video.

    In a perfect world:

each clip should have attributes, default pan and level and the option to remember and apply these sttings ala remember interpretion on ae! The option of showing track number on clip text would also be a help, spotting the track number in the mediafile name is too clumsy, since tracks can’t be attributed as odd or even you’re always in danger of flipping tracks around. I’m a pretty loyal Avid Editor but the audio tools really need updating, stereo?, ganging faders over midi, headroom adjust on import…..

Check where you’re delivering, let them know, either an ident on bars or on paper, they need to know the reference.

probably does only dv reses though I’m not that familiar, the transcode idea should make sense, the only drawback is that you may need to re import any ae type stuff at the grading stage. Relinking at the final styage is a tried and tested method, I’d still keep the express stuff as at high a res as it will handle.

The answer maybe a slightly differant workflow…

Load uncompressedd 1:1 on nitris or similar, then transcode the files to an express acceptable format without delting the origionals (two seperate drives would simplify this method)…make your offline cut then when you return to your post house for grading relink the sequence to the 1:1 media.

When you say you can’t read the files…does the express pro see any media on the drive? Were you loading omf or mxf on the other system? The mojo shouldn’t make any differance if the media is already digitised. Will the express pro work at non dv resolutions?

Have you used the drive on that system before? You might well get that problem if you were trying tro mount a mac formatted disk without having macmounter or similar intalled.

boris produce a great set of avid plug ins – standard now on nitris i believe, they appear in the effects pallette in much the same way as the standard avid effects. AE is a stand alone package, a fabulous compostitor for the price, an almost essential add on for anyone involved in the finishing/gfx end of avid work.

The answer is both! though if you contextualise the question I’II come back with a more specific answer.

    last resort…

I had similar problem a while back, your source is the real prblem, you probably need to redupe your footage, I ended up going s video to dvd and loading from there. dvd is symphathetic to unstable sources, and plays back solidly as a source, or you could rip back from dvd.

    depending on your system type

load without code and without machine control – ie wild
switch to conumer in the input tool settings
