head to head across all areas apart from aesthetics, I know a G5 looks pretty but I want to cut on it not look at it!

digitising through to export and playout, interporability, ease of use. I am ignorant re fcp, I know avid well.

right method – but either use animatte if you have it on the second layer for a good soft edged travelling matte or a soft edged circular wipe

whichever way you go add the effect on top of the defocused text layer on the same track, then, if you need to strenghen the effect just dupe the layer.

try defocusing only verticaly on one of the layers

porbably too late but try unchecking “drive filtering based on resolution’ in you settings!

inverted luminance key on a layer above a white field and keyframe the clip level/tolerance…

for a more subtle effect you can add a second layer with either some blur or saphire glow etc and then superimpose over the origional with a very low opacity/ or luma key if you only want to hit the highlights…

if you don’t want to leeterbox you’re stuck with letter boxing and then blowing up the whole image and losing the edges, though you can pan and scan to nake it a little more sympathetic.

I’m aware that I can avoid hearing the problem, but still need to know the cause, audio off the j3 is embedded 16bit 48khz off digibeta, why is the g5/fcp giving me rate converted playback? Is there an issue with the g5 itself, can I choose ” which rate the mac works. G5 spec says it works at 44.1 or 48, can I change this within the mac.I’m worreid if it does this whilst viewing that I may face the smae problem when digitising, I’m fairly confident that all my project setting are set for 48khz audio but I admit I’m an Avid guy and not expert with fcp
