I’m looking to add an effects software package. I’m looking at Boris or Adobe After Effects. Which is recomended and will they both work with Avid Express pro?

boris produce a great set of avid plug ins – standard now on nitris i believe, they appear in the effects pallette in much the same way as the standard avid effects. AE is a stand alone package, a fabulous compostitor for the price, an almost essential add on for anyone involved in the finishing/gfx end of avid work.

The answer is both! though if you contextualise the question I’II come back with a more specific answer.

Boris makes several effects plugin suites, namely “Boris Continuum Complete,” “Boris Final Effects Complete,” and of course, Boris Red/Graffiti/FX. BCC is included in Avid Media Composer and Symphony Nitris. XPro users can get it, but they have to pay for it.

If you’re using XPro, get BCC and Boris Red (or Avid FX, which is nothing more than Boris Red with an Avid name on it…you can get Avid FX as part of the Avid Studio Toolkit option for XPro/Media Composer for $1295, which is cheaper than Boris Red on its own, plus adds 2 other programs!).

AE, as was mentioned above, is a stand-alone application. AMAZING and a must-have for any editing computer!
