  • Hi Christopher, Thank You for reporting back the solution that solved your issue. Many times VFR is an issue. With that said the latest version of Vegas Pro 16 build 424 does a much better job at handling some VFR source media. That is *SOME*, but not all.

For those wanting to convert a free app by audiospot called ER Media Tool Kit is a simple, fast, and effective program to convert trouble source media files.

Also a add-on Extension front end called Happy Otter Scripts (HOS) for both older Sony Vegas Pro and the newer Magix Vegas Pro versions is available and has a feature Import Assist that maybe be very helpful. Both of these programs use ffmpeg under the hood. HOS is still a free beta version available from tools4vegas.com.

  • I think this is a v16 feature, but would adding an Adjustment Clip across the timeline do what you want?

    Hi Brad,

    +1 on the SeMW

This is a pretty old thread, probably most are on a newer version. VP15/VP16 have a native heal feature, a bit quicker to use and more power, just for those who may be reading this 2009 thread.

    Hi Chris,

I don’t need any help, Thank You.

I also don’t write scripts, just use those available from various sources.

    Hi Chris,

Thank You for posting this information.

Would the process be more expedient by using a FrameServer script direct out of Vegas to Handbrake for the x264? Or even better, using the Happy Otter Scripts (HOS) add-on to x264, avoiding the uncompressed render?

In your reference to pixel format, did you mean chroma subsampling, that confuses me?

BTW: HOS is available as a free beta at tools4vegas.com

    Hi Sam,

In addition to the info Francois requested…..

What do you mean by “32 bits rate“? Is that in reference to 32 bit floating point pixel format?

.MOV is a file container (wrapper), but does not explain what format is inside (reason for Francois asking for the Mediainfo), so what render format and template are you using for rendering? Can you post a screenshot of the render template. Also may as well post a screenshot of the Project Properties, Thank You.

    Hi David,

My knowledge and use of ‘references frames’ is very limited. From what I think I remember, 2-4 is common. The less, sown to ‘2’ is good for fast action. Animation is served better by more. I think the maximum for h.264 is 12, maybe it is 16. I do know the more you use the longer the render is going to take and the more memory is used. Also, if I remember correctly, there was something to do with player compatibility with higher use of reference frames.

Maybe other members are more familiar with it, I also leave it at the default of ‘2’, as I commonly shoot a lot of action.

  • Hi Carlos,

I’ll leave the after market Fx plugins to others as I’m only familiar with the native tools within Vegas.

As for the contrast and color adjustments, I think ‘3D LUT Creator’ is about the best you can get. Very powerful and easy to use. I think it runs about $100 USD for the simple version.

    Hi Stan,

Well, if there is anything else I can do, or making more confusing, please let me know. Good Luck with it.

BTW, way back I started tinkering with Resolve 12.5 and last year I seriously and finally got into self-training with v14. Then I made the switch when v15 was released. Now I’m on the studio version and haven’t looked back, other than now I tinker with Vegas Pro to try and help others and some friends I have that are still using it. recently I jumped tot he v16 studio beta and it has been running very well actually and runs everything better than Vegas, so I understand your frustration and wish you well in what ever you decide to use.

David, if you do try the Vegas Pro 16 trial, check that it is the latest build 424 and Go > Options > Preferences > General tab and check if there is a check mark in the box ‘Favor audio sync when playing Variable Frame Rate (VFR) media’, which should be checked, but I do not remember is it is by default.

    Best Regards……George
