Try turning on Reduce Interlace Flicker in the General tab of the menu page properties.

Throwing more hardware at it may not be the solution. Better to understand the interaction between codecs.
Monitoring on the computer, or external monitor?
What is the format set in the project properties?

First, you have to drag out a time selection to define the in and out points of the region.

Just a couple of details:
Magic Bullet can be nice for film looks, but is notoriously slow to render.
No copy protection if you are burning your discs. This only applies if you are sending projects out for replication.

If the camera is not recognized by the system (i.e. show up in devices)there are some things to try if the problem is still there after it’s back from repair, but I do not see how this has any bearing on deciding to use Vegas or not.

I use Firefox and have never had this problem with Creative Cow.

Are you transcoding an analog signal? If so, turn off DV device control.
If not, disable ‘stop capture on dropped frames’.
