installed trial version of v6 on my computer & couldn’t get it to recognize my sony trv900. camera did not show up on the video menu at all. this camera used to work with avid express dv3 & I seem to have the memory that it would show up when i opened “my computer” & it doesn’t now. my trial version has since expired & computer is being worked on for other bugs at the moment. don’t know if i should invest in vegas if i can’t get my camera to work w/ it. Solutions? New firewire card? Thanx, sue

If the camera is not recognized by the system (i.e. show up in devices)there are some things to try if the problem is still there after it’s back from repair, but I do not see how this has any bearing on deciding to use Vegas or not.

Make sure you select the “external” capture app and not the internal one as that’s for HDV footage.

I have several cameras ,one of them is a trv-900.
I used to use it as my capture-cam.
I started to have fire wire problems one day. If I had the camera, external drives, external firewire audio etc… hooked up then i wouldnt get video preview or camera recognition.
    tried new cards, drivers, etc.
Long story short…as soon as I replaced that camera with another one …all problems went away.
I now can have multiple devices attached however i want …non issue.
Also when using it alone. (no other firewire stuff) it would still play nasty and drop recognition randomly.
My thoughts with no technical reason is that this was an earlier era camera with early firewire firmware. (circa 1997 ish)
Maybe she doesnt play ball the way the new ones do.
Or maybe the chip went bad inside ???

I tried cleaning the contacts with very good oxidation cleaner.
I tried checking to see if there was bent pins in the connecter etc…
So I just shoot with it and take it witha grain of salt.
Try tests and other cameras first before you panic with vegas.
    Works beautifully with my VX-2100
    hope this helps.
