Aja does not really certify storage systems, but they work with many manufacturers.

When I do demo’s or talk about storage I refer to the companies that have proven track records in my experience.

For Portable FW storage I have mostly G-Tech Minis, and G-raid Mini’s and the occasional ruggedized Lacie Drive.

For Desktop systems – currently I have in use storage from MaxxDigital, JMR, Dulce, and Acera.

I also recently tested a Caldigit HDPro 2 that I was very impressed with the unit, this is the first Caldigit drive enclosure I am comfortable to recommend and it was just announced on March 1.

It was my understanding that Sony was the Broadcast supplier ( named in the credits every night)

A large amount of the Live footage on the Downhill / Aerials / Snowboard and the Hockey finals were shown being shot on Thomson LDK’s, at least that was the only model I saw.

I was told by a reliable source that the robo cam at the start of the bobsleigh run that I have raved about online was from Panasonic but the handhelds were again Thomson’s.

Since a good deal of the cameras were robotic and not held by operators it would be difficult to tell with out actually being there, so we are not talking tapeless for the most part, we are talking about being tethered to a truck and that usually means tape somewhere in the chain.

what Kona Plugin? the AE plug in for CS4 or something else.
This type of crash in FCP is usually the result of something not compatible with your OS.

and why are you using some tool to tell you what is crashing your computer when the system has one built in- it is called “Console” and it records everything that goes wrong on the computer.

what does the crash log really sayt

operator error.

Try resetting FCP by using the appropriate easy setup for your ProRes projects correct format, all should be fine then.

OH, and you cannot use FW storage with the IoHD without buying a FW card to go in your computer- the IoHD takes the entire bandwidth of the FW pipe.

since you don’t mention any specs about anything it is hard to answer.

Have you set the Kona Control Panel to the audio source you are working with?
the default would be HDSDI for audio and video,so how are you connected.

Changing the slot the card is in would change the config on the card back to the factory defaults.

The IoHD was designed to handle apples ProRes codec in realtime.
It can only handle realtime conversion and output of DVCProHD content on a suitable desktop system if you want to stay in that codec.

I have seen people run the KiPro off telecine for dailies as ProRes, but not for final transfers since it is only a 4:2:2 and most film transfers I want or choose to work with are 444. The other issue is a majority scanners do not run “realtime’ @ 24/ 25fps to allow the device to be used in this manner.

I have passed Dual Link HDSDI signal via a Hi5 3G > HDMI into the KiPro using LTC from an HDCamSR Deck to do offline’s or dailies of this nature.

The RS422 is not yet enabled to allow for remote control.
