the Jpeg 2K for projection codec is not part of the FCP install. So the third party codec would be the only option within FCP to encode that file. I have not heard of a Festival that requires DCI spec Jpeg2000 compression for delivery.

I know that a number of these festivals are now delivering content compressed as Apple ProRes and output via Kona/ BMD/ Matrox cards direct into the projector-This is how we have delivered the highend demo content from companies like RED, ARRI, and Sony at NAB every year as part of the Director of Photography Conference.

Question- Jp2K compression is used so the file can be loaded on a DCI server and include the appropriate DRM / Copy Protection needed for protected distribution.
Why encode to this for a one-off presentation when a tape deck or KiPro rental would be much less than that D5 and allow you to output your file as baseband video direct into the projector – at an even higher quality than using JPG2K and the associated hassles.

I do not know of any HDCam deck that supports FW for input.

Aja’s IoHD,IoExpress and the Matox MXO/2 products all support playback of content from a laptop to professional decks via HDSDI or component, assuming that the DP has access to an HDCam Deck instead of one of the JH -series playback only versions.

Yes it will, are you aware of the PhantomCine QT plugin that allows you to work with the native Phantom .Cine files? <https://www.gluetools.com>

IMHO Gluetools is still the best way to get the most out of the phantom camera, it allows access to the full 16bit color space the camera records and it allows preview of the cine files in QT player.

The current version of the KiPro software does what I will call VFR “lite”- I can capture the standard frame rates the camera supports- so with the 1.1 update you can record 720p materials at 23.98, 24, 25, and 29.97 without pulldown. The 1.1 firmware does not allow for true “offspeed” recordings yet.

Note too that when you shoot with Varicam @ 25/ 60p (not 59.94) you will not be able to monitor the video being passed thru the KiPro.

Yep- do it all the time, Please note that the camera does not do a full debayer when playing back – only the Phantom’s Cinestation allows for full debayer playback.

It does.

Pushing the “Slot” button un-mounts the drive, with visual indication on the display that says CLIP / DRIVE is NA or not available

This is a computer that records to disk, all disks attached to a computer need to be unmounted before removing.

You are not shutting down the unit after making the setting changes,my guess they are not sticking because of that.

Change the settings then power down and back up to see if that helps.

Bad Idea, especially if you are talking about reading and writing video, the last thing you want is the inexpensive drives, those will usually have sub-standard performance and cache that is required for video processing and playback.

However – do realize that the Uncompressed is talking about the video signal and not the file compression? Otherwise you would be working with the codec called NONE.
