KONA LHI Output screen goes crazy on playback then FCP crashes
So we recently installed the AJA Kona LHI-RO into our Macpro system(12gb Ram and Dual 2.93 GHZ where we are cutting on FCP 7 and it was working flawlessly for a couple weeks.. Then recently it started to do this thing, where randomly during the day the output screen starts to go crazy with the footage and then it is only minutes before final cut pro crashes. Crash Analyzer from Digital rebellion says it’s the kona plug in causing the crash, but its quite annoying that this started to happen. We do daily maintenance to always keep the FCP up to full speed.
has anyone had the same problem….
We are using 422 pro res 1920×1080 at 23.98
Outputting at AJA KONALHI 1080I29.97 10 Bit(1920×1080).. have to do it that way cause of our Panasonic tvIt doesn’t do it a lot.. it just seems after hours of working it starts to do it…. and it works fine after a relaunch of fcp after a crash as well

what Kona Plugin? the AE plug in for CS4 or something else.
This type of crash in FCP is usually the result of something not compatible with your OS.and why are you using some tool to tell you what is crashing your computer when the system has one built in- it is called “Console” and it records everything that goes wrong on the computer.

What Gary says and also try unistalling and reinstalling your drivers.
What daily maintenance are you running exactly?

Also, what version of the drivers and are you round tripping from any other application when this happens?

The driver is the latest… might try reinstalling and see if it helps… daily maintenance.. ie cleaning cahce and clearing… making sure all drives running in good condition

its a weird little thing and it goes away when i relaunch and it hasnt happened again today, but just dont want it to happen again.

Make sure to uninstall with the AJA uninstaller first.
I’ll ask again, do you notice this when bouncing back and forth between Vout apps?

When you say Vout… you mean other apps like AE or other video outs??? If that’s the case then no we dont switch back and forth.
Yeah and thanks already know about the uninstaller… going to do it at lunch and see if it helps.

Other applications that use the QT video out via the Kona, yes. Any studio app (color, etc).

We do not use them 99% of the time, so it that seems to not be the issue, but will keep an eye on that to see if that might be a cause…

So all I uninstalled the AJA Driver and then re-installed in and still am getting this problem.. below is a diagnostic of the crash…
Suspected Cause:
This crash appears to have been caused by an issue with your graphics card or graphics drivers. A common cause of issues is running Final Cut Studio on an underpowered graphics card.Suggested Actions:
* Switch off RT Extreme in Final Cut Pro.
* Export any embedded Motion or LiveType projects on your timeline as QuickTime movies and then reimport them. NO DONT HAVE ANY IN TIMELINE
* Update your operating system, as Apple includes new graphics drivers with each OS X point update. ALL UPDATED
