DVDSP3 does this directly if you have it. drop the HD file in the assets and it will downconvert on the fly

remember –AJA sells video hardware and this test app assumes that you are working with the aja boards. so doing telecine from 24p material to 60i is done in realtime by your hardware device not the CPU so YES you would get more streams and you also get LIVE preview.
Your drive issues have nothing to do with Mac or PC it has to do with moving larger amounts of data in realtime than you did on your PC. 10bit video with an alpha channel (10 bit animation codec files from AE) are nearly 35mgs a second – or about 9x the amount of data than DV25 (which is 3.75mgs per second with audio)

Sorry PC , but this is very much a Qt 7 / FCP5 issue I would have never installed a brand new version of any app to do production on within 90 days of its release.

Actually Shane that is an issue with Avid all together, as the Avid systems only see 23.98, 24, 29.97, 30p, and 59.94 frame rates from the Varicam (I believe that 60p is not supported) due to Avid not wanting the hassle of creating a FRC like Apple has done for FCP.
On a second note: Boards like the Kona 2 can function as an FRC when capturing via SDI. I have successfully captured frame rates as low as 4 fps direct to my K2 system with master TC embedded in the file — which cannot be done when using software FRC from Apple – it strips out all TC reference when it converts the frame rates.

That would be correct
and be true for Standard Def and HD cameras that use tape — they cannot directly record to tape at 24p (23.98) so all of them need to add additional frames so that the footage can be played back in the native frame rate for the chosen tape stock — in this example NTSC is played by on a TV at 29.97 FPS / Drop Frame so to “trick the eye” frames are placed back into smooth the motion and time.Decks such as the Sony HDCAM SR and Panasonic D5 can record 24fps direct to tape (and cost accordingly)

you are correct , I mis-spoke, What I thought I I was trying to say is that the F900 does not support all of the VFR data embedding in the same way the varicam does. Some early models of the f900 do not support the RP188 TC stream without having the hardware / firmware updated.FYI for the others out there
the original RP188 TC spec was intended to include a variety of USER bit info, not just date and time, but also frame rate , keycode, shot or take #, user info, and even GPS data embedding are supported. Most current workflows (outside of NASA) only use this info for Frame Rate information and data at this time, but as we move to a tapeless working mode, more of this data is to be embedded in our files just like it is in the EXIF metadata format used on digital still camerasgary adcock
