I have a pre-release unit (3.6T) with a 3GB PCI-X card, Raid 0 and 5 capable, with Swappable Drive modules, While it is not out of my testing cycle, yet I have seen 160+mgs async with sustained 200+ meg reads only.
The best part of Sata2 is only one cable to the array gives me that speed.

Converting everything to 8-bit uncompressed won’t be hard with the KONA. “if you are finishing to a film master you need to work from the beginning to that end or it will cost you.
Film is 24 frames, NTSC is 59.94 fields. PAL is 50 fields. Convert everything to 24p to save you the grief later on. (and the Nattress Standards Filters are better than the DV Atlantis –IMHO)If you know you are going to film –treat it all your content like film and it will save what hair you have

Sorry no postscript fonts in FCP,
only Truetype, Open Type and Bitmap fonts work in FCP.IF you really need the font work in After Effects which does not have the restriction.

with the AJA products put the scsi card in the 4 slot, kona 2 in the 3 slot.
I think the BMD needs to be the other way around.

Working with Fibre in FCP is a dream!, long cable runs and no worries. you will love everything but the cost, but in a multiuser environment it cannot be beat. A single user has SATA and SCSI options ( SATA being the brightest star right now)
As for the Sync – if you are not in a facility with house sync you can force the sync on the Kona 2 to be the video in signal if needed (or you can turn it off) However some decks really don’t function properly without a sync signal (D5 for one) so the AJA answer is correct – sometimes you can live without it -especially in a smaller suite– but depending on your workflow it may be required.

I do not know where you got this info but it is totally incorrect. The K2 Driver has NO control for RT effects in FCP, RT effects in FCP are the result of a combination of RAM, Read /Write Drive speed, GPU performance and CPU speed.gary adcock

it’s your lack of RAM
the spec calls for a Min 1 gig of RAM for all HD projects. ( since I am assuming that was 512 RAM in your note)gary adcock

I love that fact that it gives me a smaller file size that the “none”compressor and I also get the alpha channels so I can modify things later if I need to. (and I may have been in that Apple conversation Bob)
Your 1080i60 file size and renders will be larger and longer than with 720p24.
Rendering in Lightwave on a PC use either animation(if you need to keep the alpha’s) or pjpeg @ 75% or better if you do not.

yes – it will also free up the FW port on your mac for other things.
